Oh my word that is terrifying - I'm so glad it wasn't any worse, although it sounds plenty bad enough! Even more shocking that the driver then just drove on!
Well here we all are back at the beginning of another week - and it's starting out chilly and damp down here, and with a potential large expense as MrEH's car refused point blank to start this morning. Feeling very grateful that we were at least able to switch straight to mine, but his really doesn't sound happy at all, and we've no idea what can have occurred allowing it was running just fine yesterday, and yet this morning, a very sluggish effort at the engine turning over the start followed by a very unhealthy sort of noise... Ugh. Current plan is for MrEH to check what our usual mechanic thinks - and then assuming he's happy to take it to call breakdown and see what gives. It *could* be as simple as the battery is flat - but that in turn begs the question of why as it was OK less than 24 hours ago!
Sigh - it's never easy, is it! we did have plans to meet up with a pal on Thursday evening for some beers, and the original idea was that we would leave MrEH's car parked up in London over the weekend then collect it again on Monday, but that clearly isn't going to happen now unless it is a VERY simple fix, and I don't want to leave us without a car at all over a weekend AND leave us with no easy means of getting into work on Monday either. Also don't want to cancel on our friend so that probably leaves one of us needing to drive back that night.
Agile prices are looking grim all week - and MrEH forgot he needed to make rolls yesterday so we've used bread from the freezer for today's lunches and will have to review what we do from there - it may be that the best bet is just to do a loaf overnight in the bread maker though to be honest, as the prices through a lot of this evening are fairly painful for oven use. Another alternative is to do the rolls as usual but he uses the top oven to bake them, as that's far cheaper to heat up, but he doesn't like doing that. I boiled and mashed tatties last night so those will just reheat via the microwave tonight which will help, and the hob use will be limited to cooking the liver. bacon and onions.
I got fed up waiting for the manufacturer to get their act together about the damaged oil filled rad we bought - they eventually came back and said I'd contacted the wrong team but as I had clicked through directly from the link THEY provided, that was a bit poor. Anyway, have now gone through the return process direct with the big river site and have dropped off the return - but they are now saying nearly a month for delivery of the replacement which is a bit grim and frankly leaves me leaning towards just canceling the flipping thing! (Not least the same item is available from the indian-food themed electrical retailer and if I order the rechargeable dustbuster vac we need at the same time I think I'll get free delivery too... Need to have a think about that.) I wasn't intending to buy the vac this month but in fairness the old one isn't holding charge at all at the moment, so maybe this is the time...
Grocery shopping this week is more expensive than ideal but as it includes a relatively small farmer's market spend plus the oranges and sugar for the marmalade it's not as bad as it might have been. We got the sugar in A's yesterday as we were using their car park and although they weren't the cheapest place for the sugar on a per kilo basis it probably WAS cheaper than driving elsewhere to get it and paying the 50p to park. I also gained my first £2 into my cashpot on their app which is a bonus, and makes me think I may do a weekly shop there next week as it appears I will then get another one (new app user)

What a pain about the car, hope it's an easy and cheap fix and you can see your pals as planned.
I think in your position I'd also just cancel the oil rad transaction and get the free delivery on items you were going to buy anyway. Don't forget to go through cashback sites if poss!5 -
Hope the car is not too expensive to fix we do the same leave the car away from home to save a taxi fare back so hope its a quick fix so you don't have to change your plans. Is that Seville Oranges you have got? A friend of mine has made Seville marmalade as well and told me to try the oranges as if they were lemons like on fish etc to get a different sour taste.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Haha PiP the big river transaction is now canceled and the indian food themed store have our business instead - 99p more on the heater but so be it, free delivery, and the TCB click is already showing with "pending uplift" against it as it should increase thanks to higher cashback on the heater!
Thanks all - it is indeed infuriating about the car and I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed for an easy fix!
We do marmalade every year L - two batches as a rule. It's thoroughly enjoyed in our house! Yep TG - seville oranges, best flavour for marmalade IMO!
I must keep a close eye on the Big River site to ensure that we get the refund on the return - the order I've cancelled as a replacement shows a zero value.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Strangely, I have just been in the Indian food themed store. Dropped off some electrical recycling and thought I'd have a browse at their floor steamers as ours has given up. I can see why no one shops instore there these days. Found the one I wanted, but had a few questions and it said they would price match if cheaper elsewhere. So checked big river site and £3 cheaper. Looked around for a staff member and none to be seen and several people also wandering around looking for help. The only staff seemed to be the one on the return/collection counter and one on customer service, who had a massive queue! So I have come home and decided to order from big river.Making the debt go down and savings go up
