  • For some people that £100 could save them £1000s in broker fees over the years.

I have recently moved my ISA from ii to iWeb.

Even if I had not opened it when it was free the £100 would save me c.£1500 over the next decade (ii £150 per year).

Note the transfer was completed in 7 days and involved three ETFs

None of us can say what their fees will look like across the next decade or so. But, like I say, they are on the shortlist for when I review some of my investments, probably next year.

I also opened an account whilst it's free but I have no immediate plans to use it beyond sticking a tenner into it in the hope that it will not get closed by them. I'm likely to be reorganising a few investments next year and iWeb is one of the possible players..
You may find that they return your tenner and close the account.
That's fine if they choose to do that. If not, then they might see more investment at some point. I have no strong opinion on using them but there is no way I'd ever shell out £100 just to open an account with them. They are not that special.
It's highly unlikely iWeb will close it. Like banks, brokers play the long game.  Barclays Stockbrokers used to be my main broker but many years after transferring everything out it's still sitting there waiting for me.

Anyone have any thoughts on how much separation there is between IWeb and Lloyds?

I bank with Lloyds and I use Vanguard for my ISA which has a couple of hundred grand in it.

I like IWeb so far and it might make sense to transfer the ISA to reduce fees but I'm cautious of having all my money at the mercy of Lloyds.

Fully appreciate there's probably a view that if Lloyds had problems there would be bigger issues going on.

Both Lloyds and iWeb investment platforms are run by Halifax Share Dealing Limited. I would assume client money would be held in a Lloyds group bank account. I wouldn't see it being much of a risk except when you were switching investments or sitting in cash.

Does IWeb have real time share prices or are they 15minute delayed?  AJBell has realtime pricing.

15 minute delayed, but you can just set up a portfolio on Google Finance or similar for live pricing.

iWeb uses 15 minute delayed prices for your portfolio, but you can get real time quotes from the trading screen. You do not have to complete the trade. It was the same for AJ Bell when I last used them.

It's very dependent on the investments you hold and how long it takes those fund houses to action a request to re-register to your new nominee. iWeb will give you an estimate when you complete the transfer form based on their recent experience receiving transfers from your old provider, but this will contain a large margin of error.
