With the first event now out of the way there’s five scheduled test sessions left to go before the end of the year (plus the possibility of extra live events), so we should expect the frequency of DFS events to pick up for the next few weeks. Will be a nice little Christmas bonus for anyone exporting I’m sure!

Sky news are reporting the first live event for the DFS will take place tomorrow evening (Wednesday) from 5pm to 6.30pm.
Had a notification from Octopus offering £4 per unit saved.

Yes, tomorrow is a live event, the first one was a test. So the statement was correct, first live event.
PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)

Why am i being paid £1.03 for a test then and what is the difference?
All the events are live, i remember it happening while it was happening.

You still get paid for tests. A test event happens when the National Grid doesn't really need people to reduce power, but they want to make sure that customers will actually respond and therefore they can rely on the scheme when needed. Hence a test. They also commit to running a certain number of tests each year as an incentive to sign up, given the number of live events could be zero.

TheBanker’s reply above is pretty much a spot on summary - the very first link in the OP will also take you to the National Grid website, which gives a more detailed overview about the DFS and the test events if you wanted to learn more.

(and for anyone so inclined a good dig around in that same website and the associated documentation will turn up just about every detail there is to know about DFS, straight from the horses mouth)

  • Of course its not all about the money but you can do your part reducing usage when they start stoking the coal power stations and the gas generators?

Something that's lost without the monetary rewards of last year as feared in another thread.
Just spent the last few hours trying to register, unsuccessfully, for this with Octopus (as I did last year) BUT it seems they are only offering this to their Direct Debit customers with smart meters. I understand the latter part, but using an OFGEM nationwide initiative to encourage users to move to DD seems a bit unfair and out of character for Octopus.

Yes bad Octopus for trying to get people onto a cheaper payment method like direct debit. Slap that octopus. ✋ 🐙 (Note I will have to check this statement that Octopus is indeed cheaper paid by DD)

Of course you don't have to be in a pay upfront scheme on direct debit you can pay whole bill variable monthly direct debit so same as receiving a bill every month and paying it in full in arrears.
