    Definitely!
You've had your smart meter for two and a half years. During that time you've generated about 7500kWh (if you have a FIT meter reading from mid-2021 we can be more precise) and have exported almost 6000 of them.
    That's an export of 80%. 2400kWh a year.
Currently you're being paid for deemed export of ~1500kWh at ~7p/kWh. That's £105 a year.
    Your options include:
    • Continue on deemed export and £105  year
    • Switch to metered FIT export and earn (2400*07) £168 a year.
    • Switch to metered Outgoing Octopus Fixed at 15p/kWh and earn (2400*0.15) £360 a year.
The choice, as they say, is yours.

You have pinpointed 3 options.  Scottish Power are offering me an option to switch from their FIT to (their) SEG. Is that a 4th option?
Is "Outgoing Octopus Fixed" an alternative tariff arrangement to Tracker (as I believe is Flux)?
I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to implement one or other of these options. I got the impression that Scot Power would do most of the legwork associated with their SEG themselves. I wouldn't know where to start with Octopus other than send an email to help@...
It is easy in such matters to get one's lines crossed. I was about to say that choosing your option 3 was a no-brainer but stopped just in time.

Scottish Power's SEG is another option. (I did say "options include" - that list isn't comprehensive!)
    So we've got:
    • Continue on deemed export and £105  year
    • Switch to metered FIT export and earn (2400*0.07) £168 a year
    • Switch to SP SEG and earn (2400*0.12) £288 a year
    • Switch to metered Outgoing Octopus Fixed at 15p/kWh and earn (2400*0.15) £360 a year.
Is "Outgoing Octopus Fixed" an alternative tariff arrangement to Tracker (as I believe is Flux)?
Octopus have a range of incoming (import) tariffs and a range of outgoing (export) tariffs. There's a matrix on their website that shows which ones you can have in combination. Currently the most lucrative export tariff is Outgoing Fixed at 15p/kWh.
Switching your export away from SPnis slightly more complicated than keeping it with them, so you might want to start with metered export on SPs SEG and then look at other options in the longer term.

  • And would Octopus Outgoing Fixed be an independent stand-alone tariff or would it interfere with using Tracker or Agile? I'd like to keep the two quite separate! I will  have a  look at the Octopus website "all our tariffs"?

Look for the Octopus matrix. It's the only place to know which of their tariffs are compatible with which.

  • I have found a page headed Export at Octopus Energy which gives various options including Fixed Outgoing Octopus, but isn't exactly a combinations matrix. I will continue to search ..

Surprising how available the high rate of export is. Didn't expect it to be available on that many tariffs. Not sure why, but I thought it wouldn't be available on SVR too. 😀

  • Yes that must be the matrix. Where - on the website?  -  did you "find" it??
