Does Amazon include the Serial Numbers of products (like laptops) on the invoices? That may be a way for them/you to tell what device was sent and received by Amazon.

Hi, I am also having problems with Amazon and need to take them to the small claims. Can you let me know where you sent your letter before action to please?

That’s a fair deadline. Hopefully it’s just a miscommunication error, and gets resolved! Let us know how you get on!

In case anyone’s wondering, this is because the item contains a lithium battery and is classed as hazardous. Amazon provide an unpaid address label (to be reimbursed) and a battery warning label. It’s so you have to present the parcel at a counter (for safe handling) and not just dump it in a parcel post box, for example. Alternative is to use an Amazon locker return, if available.

I sense having to take this all the way to small claims. Feels like retailers now just assume the customer is out to scam them. However, their disposing of the alleged evidence must surely be to your advantage.

I wrote to Mr John Boumphrey, amazon Country Manager, enclosing a little stack of their email correspondence. Letter special delivery, needing a signature.

P161G is simply a different code for the same laptop. It's on the support page for the laptop (unfortunately not allowed to post links):

Someone at Amazon has simply read the wrong thing on a label.
