  • Thanks Qeiz, I have visited the link, and selected the link on their website. But it doesn't work. It says I need an 'app' in order to use it, but fails to mention what this 'app' actually is, or where I can download it.

Do you mean the link to send an email? This link (pictured in this screenshot):

If you have an email client installed and configured, it should open up with the "send new mail" dialogue. That's what I get (Windows Mail on Win10).
If you don't have an email client but use webmail, just type the email address into the "To:" box in your "compose mail" window.

If you have a smart phone then you can download the app from the app store.
It is the Octopus app & it is easy to use.

  • It could be easier than that.

The OP appears to be on an E7 tariff. The IHD meter reading is the sum of all the 4 registers that have been in use since the meter was installed.

Good morning Maverick, been following this from a distance as the more.experienced on the forum have already chipped in but the following leaps out at me.

    1) have you done what was previously asked and added yourself on the priority service with Octopus as you cannot see to read your meter?

    2) can you pickup your in home display (as asked as well) and have a play with it. Your meter readings can be obtained from there and are most likely easier to read. Let us know what it says.

    3) you appear to be on the wrong tariff unless you have storage heaters and have decided not to use them. Economy 7 for all electric properties is generally used for those with storage heaters to charge up when the rate is cheaper and discharge during the day/evening.

I'm on the Priority Services Register with Octopus and it doesn't seem to help much when there are problems.

My gas smart meter is faulty and needs an engineer appointment, I was told 6 weeks, but that was 10 weeks ago.
    I'm chasing regularly.

Using up energy chasing and manually supplying readings is something I'm on the PSR to avoid.
Soon I'll have to formally complain to try and get this resolved, more energy used.

Previous supplier British Gas also saw me have a poor experience of PSR.

On IHDs such as the Chameleon 3 and 6, the readings shown on the IHD are the sum of the index readings R1 to R4. I believe that the OP is currently on a 2 register E7 tariff.

To put this into context. I am currently on a single register electricity tariff. My IHD shows a reading 03186. When I look at my actual meter’s sub menu it shows a R1 reading of  02718 and a R2 reading of 00468. I have been on a dual register tariff in the past.

Still a total will give an indication as to how far out the estimates are.

Something else to support.the OP with their complaint.

I do not understand why the op has been on E7 all this time as he mentions he was on warm air heating years ago.I used to have that in my flat but i was on the standard tariff as it is instant heating.

I take daily readings for my electric usage most days it's around 3.9 kWh to 4.5 kWh with the odd day at 7 or 8 kWh, this is the day I do washing and drying in a heated airer. If you're on an SVR tariff then you should be able to work out the daily usage, I'm on the tracker tariff so my usage can vary each day even if I use exactly the same amount of electric as the previous day.
I do give Octopus monthly readings for electric and gas so my bills are accurate. I have on a couple of occasions wondered why my daily usage is up from around 4.5 kWh to 6 kWh but the next day I seem to use less electric even though I've done nothing different to the previous day when the usage was higher.
Someone please tell me what money is
