Washing machine leaking after 2.5 years

  • Just to confirm that using too much detergent can make things leak. I ran out of dishwasher tablets one time so use what I thought was a little fairly liquid instead. Soap suds burst out of the dishwasher, all around the door and spread all over the floor. Took 4 washes to get rid of the soap out of the dishwasher.

  • Buy some powder or soda crystals, put a normal dose in the powder drawer and run it on a 90 degree wash, empty.  You can turn off the spin.  Do this a couple of times, once to soften the sludge that will have built up in the machine and pipes, and the second run to flush it through.  I strongly suspect overuse of liquid detergent which has gummed the whole thing up.
Powdered washing power or soda crystals?

I'd go for the soda crystals for cleaning a washing machine.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Soda crystals if you have them or can get them, normal washing powder if you can't.

Couldn’t find any soda crystals so I’m going to do a hot wash with my washing powder (I don’t use liquid).

I’ve recently done a bleach wash as well - 6 weeks ago maybe because the washing machine or dishwasher smelt. So I did both with a small amount of bleach. Started to leave the doors open after washing. It’s a built in washing machine as well.

Wow - where do you do your shopping?

Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Aldi, B&M and probably many more all sell dp soda crystals (in a green bag). Approx £2.

Small local Sainsburys and Lidl. I don’t have a car at the moment and a bit of illness.

Adding white vinegar to a normal wash (in the rinse part of the drawer) will remove damp odours in clothing and the machine, and reduce any hard water problems in the machine (appreciate the OP doesn't have hard water). I don't use bleach at all, just in case it causes problems in future washes lol.

My washing machine has a hole in the bottom of the door seal/gasket.  If this gets blocked up, it can leak when washing.  I always give it a wipe every couple of washes lol.

I used bleach thinking it would kill the smells. Did my dishwasher as well. I did another wash at the end to get rid of any left over bleach.

I also did a vinegar wash today - one cup at 90 degrees. Is the drum supposed to get frothy?

I’ve checked my lodgers use of detergent and she uses about two pods and conditioner for every wash. I’m sure it’s contributing to the issue.
