Washing machine leaking after 2.5 years

Options
My Beko washing machine is leaking. I purchased the machine from AO and Beko offer a two year warranty.

Would it be fair in assuming the machine should last longer than it should? Do I have a legal claim?

Things do ware out and how long things last is going to depend  to a large extent on the amount of use it gets. The machine probably just has a worn seal but you will have to get en engineer out to find the fault. If it is more serious and the engineer thinks it is an inherent fault then you will will have evidence to pursue AO with without that you won’t get anywhere.
  • Inherent fault?

It’s stopped working correctly….. needs an engineer to attend…. Is that not enough? It’s a two person household and we only use it a couple of times a week.

Not really, no. And bear in mind even a successful claim would need to take into account the age of the machine i.e. if what you ought to have is a 2.5 year old, but working, machine - how much longer before it "should" start breaking down?

Inherent isn’t the best choice of word, you are basically looking to say there was a part of the machine that had an issue (probably not durable enough to last a reasonable time) which hasn’t come to light until now.

After 6 months the onus is on the consumer to show the goods do not conform.

I would certainly approach the retailer with your concerns but if they ask for proof before doing anything that is a correct stance for them to take.

The proof is 50/50 so ideally something from an independent inspection that shows the issue wasn’t caused by user error/misuse.

But leaking from where? Door seal, inlet hose, drain hose? The latter two are simple fixes if so.
Budget machines are often designed to last little more than 500 cycles, and yours has done around 250, so it should last maybe five years before the drum bearings start to fail.
Before you can make any sort of claim against AO under CRA 2015, you need to get the fault diagnosed. You now have no claim vs Beko, only your statutory rights under CRA 2015.

Leaking from the door and also that pull out part you put the detergent in.

My lodger was putting on her third wash of the day and I’m sure she uses 2 pods for a >6kg load in a soft water area, clothes not soiled.

There is as a lot of suds that came out, so I’m not sure if she overloaded?

She’s was using a “mixed material” wash at 40 degrees for 2 hours…. And literally half the machine was full.

I put on a 30 min wash after the “leak” and there was minimal leaking. It happened at the start and not after that. I had some grey towels down and you could see there was only a bit of dribble and it stoped after 10 mins.

She’s apparently put on another load the day after, 30 min wash and it was “fine” but she’s not bright and has no interest in my back pocket

Sounds like too much suds from too much detergent added.
