🎵 Don't know why, there's no sun up in the sky...🎵
Thanks MV and Greenbee - technology moves so quickly these days doesn't it.
Did you enjoy the summer? 😂 It has come to a dramatic end here in the Shire with a huge thunder storm. The ground needs a good soaking so I'm glad to see some rain... just not too much of it please Mother Nature 😆
We had a lazy Sunday morning to start the day then, after lunch, Mr F started veg bed digging and I assembled the (second attempt) neckband for my dress. The band is made of two long sections sewn together. Each section is made up of two layers of fabric and two layers of interfacing. When I sewed the sections together I realised that, because of the number of layers, the fabric is bunching on one side. This is why the band wasn't lying flat last time. So... more unpicking is required and I'll be trying again using a walking foot. I have one but don't know how to use it so some googling will be required. I'm hoping that will help the fabric feed through more evenly and solve the problem. This dress is taking forever 🙄
Friend's gardener arrived to look at what was required and said he was happy to work a couple of hours while he was here. So, he put my main crop potatoes in for me, dug over a veg bed and started on some weeding of ground elder in my big flower bed 🥳 He and Mr F between them have made a huge dent in the veg patch work. Gardener will be coming back Friday if the weather permits. It makes financial sense to get some help in because Mr F can earn in an hour the cost of 5 hours gardening. It's going to take so much pressure off. I felt very sorry for Gardener though as he stayed to finish digging over the veg bed and then started cycling home just as the storm hit. He said he'd quite appreciate a good soaking after all his hard work 😲 As long as he doesn't get hit by lightening - he was using an electric bike 😲
Lunch was Leek, Bacon & Mustard Quesadillas. Supper is Sausage & Apple Casserole with Butterbean Mash. I'll need to make more rhubarb cordial tomorrow - Gardener got a taste for it too 😆 He didn't charge us as much as his rates suggest for today so I'll gift him a bottle.
I've got a couple of small admin jobs to complete this evening and then I'll be calling it a day. Mr F is currently testing Betty Boiler - so far she is proving her worth as far as baths are concerned 😆
Hope you've all had a great weekend.

Ooh, good work with getting some help in the garden
I do keep pondering it myself, but am trying an attitude change first
My ex boyfriend was struck by lightningHe was cycling in a hail storm, got off and sheltered under a (very long!) row of trees. They reckon his cycle helmet saved him - it went in through his shoulder and out through his, er - well let's just say there were lots of burn marks in his underpants
Fortunately he lived to tell the tale, but I certainly wouldn't advise it!

I'm not sure I should be attempting to follow Cheery's story!
Definitely worth getting help in the garden. I have someone 3 days a month (I'd have more, but he's in demand) as I need a LOT of help while I try to get the new garden under control. My aim is that by the time he retires it'll be manageable (partly because there will be a lot less lawn to mow and I'll be able to have a robot lawnmower like several of my neighbours do 🤣).6 -

Oh my! When I was working as a tour guide for a vineyard, I took people out in all weathers. I researched what to do if caught out in a thunder storm but if lightening is coming your way you only have seconds to act.greenbee said:I'm not sure I should be attempting to follow Cheery's story!

We already feel more relaxed about the garden Greenbee. The veg patch is almost back under control and ready to receive seedlings... if they ever come up 🙄 We were approached to provide a testing ground for robot mowers this year. I got very excited but it came to nothing in the end.

The sweet smell of....
panic! I realised this morning that it's my turn to provide refreshments for the WI meeting tonight 😲 We have over 20 members now so it's no small undertaking. I like to provide something home-baked when it's my turn as we are the WI after all 😉 However, after spending the whole morning baking Rhubarb Crumble Muffins and Banana & Pecan Loaf cake I might supplement with some shop bought biscuits 😊 I've also made some Rhubarb Cordial for the Gardener as he didn't charge us as much as he'd estimated and at one point did say I could pay him in Rhubarb Cordial if I wanted 😆
At least the house was filled with the delicious aroma of baking... until a local farmer started muck spreading 😲 It's very whiffy now 💩
We've had leftover Sausage & Apple Casserole for lunch and it might just be a sandwich supper as I'll be in a rush to get out on time later. Mr F was complaining that he never gets to eat muffins and loaf cake - his usual refrain when I'm baking for the WI 🙄 So we shared a muffin for quality control purposes 😆
My intention was to meal plan and do the on-line shop this morning but that will have to wait until tomorrow now. Mr F has run out of pants and has a three day meeting coming up. He can't go commando so I'll need to sort the laundry this afternoon 😂
Boiler man has called this morning to check all is ok. He will be coming round at some stage with the guy he's recommended to do the ground works needed so will fix any snagging issues then. I'll transfer some money in a minute so it's ready when the invoice arrives.
Right - off to iron I go.
Happy Monday all.

The WI treats sound lovely and yummy! Glad Mr F got to sample one!😀
We had to put up with muck spreading in the field next to DD's last week. I refrained from pegging out any washing that day!😷Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟
