Household resilience is apparently more of a thing in some European countries so I think it makes sense for the UK to be more prepared in an emergency. I don't have a problem with it. I stocked up before Brexit, prior to Covid lockdown & find it plays to my natural cynicism about lack of investment in vital national infrastructure. I expect the tinfoil hat brigade moaning about it on social media will be the first to whine when they haven't got any candles, etc, to ride out a storm. It's just common sense.
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!3 -
I don't have an issue with stocking up on tins and candles etc but feel very resistant to buying plastic bottles of water for some reason. Maybe because for so long we've been discouraged from buying single use plastics 🤔. I don't think I'd mind that so much if it was available in glass bottles but I'm not sure it is anymore…..
Just read something about windup radios being OOS since the Govt advice was published 🙄

I was considering making a stock of food I could eat when executive dysfunction takes over. Didn't realise that dysfunction extended to the entire nation

I agree @foxgloves it's just that after the trauma of covid I'm rather resenting feeling anxious and spending money (especially as @teapot2 says on things we've been told for years are irresponsible) when I haven't much faith in the preparedness of the (any) govt. Heyho, hopefully all will be well
