TV Licensing email - "We notice you've been using iPlayer"

It's one of those situations where you definitely don't need a licence. The obligation is on them to prove that you do need one, not for you to prove that you don't. I would also just ignore it.

I have a TV license

I applied on my laptop to cancel my mother's TV license as she is now in a care home & no one lives in her home - 5 hours drive away from me - whilst it awaits sale

I just got one of these emails addressed to my mum & saying that I was watching iplayer. Well I (not my mum) was, at my home, 5 hours drive away

So they are clearly identifying laptops used to make applications to cancel TV licences & tracking the use of the laptop elsewhere.

They don't have any way to determine where iPlayer is being used (despite the implication in their communications that they do). They match email addresses and presume that the person using iPlayer is still at the street address that their old Licence was linked to.
