In the spirit of paper/cost saving I'd have hoped by now they'd have got rid of reminders (or at least started charging for them to cover the cost).

Either set up the DD and pay in that way or stick a note in a calendar (real or electronic) or a note on the fridge. The risk of a fine should be enough of a motive know the date

My mate took me to a hospital appointment today and we were discussing this. He broke down on Sunday and rang the AA - they refused to come out as they said his car was not taxed. He did not get a reminder but ernt online and renewed straight away. AA still refused to attend.as rget saud it takes 2 days for system to update. Like many others he relies on the reminder. Todsay the final notice came in the post

Exactly the same. I rely on getting the reminder, but this year, nothing and it ran out on the 1st of August!!
Very relieved to see that when I paid online just now, it automatically backdated it to the 1st. I know it is the owners responsibility but this could have ended with my car being seized... Why register with DVLA for tax reminders if they do not send them? That is the whole point, it is a reminder so you don't forget to keep your car taxed. 🙄
Have you registered with the DVLA for a reminder? or do you men the usual reminder that they usually send out?

However, according to reports aDVLA are stopping sending postal reminders and you will be able to sign up for an an online  or text reminder service

What an absolutely awful and factually incorrect article.

DVLA are allowing you to opt out of postal reminders in favour of digital reminder.  You need a passport to sign up for the service so I doubt they are going to unilaterally stop sending reminders in the post !

You can choose not to get paper reminders when you set up digital reminders in your account.

I received my reminder as usual last month. I'd be quite happy for reminder letters to be phased out, so will opt out at some point.
  • As at 30/9/23 the DVLA website states “All V11 reminders have been despatched from DVLA as they always are and without any delays, however we are investigating with our mailing providers reports of customers not receiving theirs”.

So the V11 paper reminder system has not been ended by the DVLA but there are enough reports of non-receipt by customers to cause the DVLA to start investigating.

In my correspondence with the DVLA, the agency was able to describe generally the V11 process, but was unable to prove that a V11 in respect of tax due on 1 August was in fact sent to me, nor was the agency able to produce a copy of the relevant  V11 supposedly sent to me.

I surmise from the comments of others above, the posting on the DVLA website, and my own experience that there may have been some sort of system failure in the V11 process regarding tax due on 1 August. Hopefully, the DVLA will issue the result of its investigation shortly.

Mine came for the 1st of October, so they have likely fixed the problem, if there was one.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I didnt receive one and mine was due on the 1st October, so there was an issue. Hopefully they will fix it at some point in the future

All these people using computers have a calendar installed.

Simple MSE money/fine saving measure. You know when you last paid. Set a reminder for next year. Bingo reminder pops up & you can renew without having to pay the extra 5% for DD or the fine 😍

Or you could pay the whole lot by DD and not pay any extra.
