DVLA have launched a new service (for us to beta test), maybe it is why the reminder letters have gone haywire as you can turn them off, maybe they have turned everyone's off in error.

I didn't get a reminder for my car, which was due at the end of last month.
Fortunately I keep a calendar to remind me of things.

I have a Direct Debit set up for VED.

The DVLA email me a few weeks before each annual payment is due.

I don't have to do anything but ensure there are sufficient funds to cover the DD.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
  • I don't understand why anyone relies on a 3rd party to remind them to renew car tax/MOT/insurance etc.

The DVLA is not a 3rd party.

We can't remember everything, and don't have calendars on the wall.
There is no need, because DVLA send us a tax bill every year, and we need the number on the bill to pay the tax for next year anyway..

In The Olden Days we used to have a reminder on a paper disc that was kept in the window...........

I have a recurring reminder on my phone. If I haven't yet had the reminder in the post from DVLA, I renew using the V5.

You don't need the ref. from the V11.

I changed my car 3 years ago, was sure I set up a direct debit last year, but obviously I didn't, as there's no trace of it. Got a last chance reminder today. Guess I can expect a fine now, as I've been up and down the M4. Was in such a hurry to pay, I used my debit card. Will set up a reminder and set up direct debit next year. Now I need to find my log book, for the 11 digit number, as if I don't get the reminder letter next year, I will need that. I wonder how much they're making in fines out of this? Could be worse, if I was clamped or had a crash, dread to think how much it could cost. Now I wonder if the fine is lost in the post too? Strange how I didn't notice it when I did my car insurance last week, it said my car was taxed when I looked it up.

I donlt think you get a reminder if you pay by direct debit as it automatically renews.
  • Exactly the same. I rely on getting the reminder, but this year, nothing and it ran out on the 1st of August!!
Very relieved to see that when I paid online just now, it automatically backdated it to the 1st. I know it is the owners responsibility but this could have ended with my car being seized... Why register with DVLA for tax reminders if they do not send them? That is the whole point, it is a reminder so you don't forget to keep your car taxed. 🙄
