Despite the variable weather I managed to get a lot done yesterday. Cleaned the downstairs rooms, washed the car inside and out, washing done and ironed plus a quick sort of the garden. Been shopping this morning to buy a couple of mats and a new wall clock for the hall. Money for those things out of the house and garden account. My brother's daughter is coming to stay with my sister for a few days with my great niece and great nephew so I'm off around there this afternoon to see them. Not much else planned for this week apart from hair cut!
However, planning to spend three days a way net week if I don't get any appointment date from hospital. Not sure exactly where I'm going yet but may visit some English Heritage places. I quite enjoy these mini trips. An aunt is coming next week for a fortnight which means my older relative will have good company so I can relax a bit.1 -

I tend to avoid these places in the school holidays. Currently we alternate between 12 months with EH and 12 months with NT. The latter is more expensive but generally seem a bit better organised, with more info available on each property. EH seem more commercial and are always sending e mails with all sorts of offers from 'partners'.
Plus of course they tend to focus on different sort of properties. EH is mainly castles and NT more period/stately homes.

I tend to like castles lol. Unfortunately although now fully retired from education not entirely free to visit places out of school holidays. I have to fit in with arrangements of others for the time being.1

Thanks Baron_Dale, will sit down and do a more detailed budgeting plan. I would like to leave work next year if possible. Worry a bit that I'll miss the routine (but not the job). We do have an emergency savings pot which is a comfort. Trouble is you can't account for how many 'emergencies' might be heading your way. But none of us can
I hope you have a lovely break away next week. The weather is picking up for you. And to Albermarle, I see, thanks, it's about the age rather than the pension maturing. I will pop it on the pension forum.

The date has come through for my day surgery. It will be in early September. Very fortunate as had hardly any wait time.
Off on a 4 day break back to Kent next week to recharge and have some independent time. Accommodation all booked and paid for out of travel fund pot. Always feel at home in the area where I spent my University years. Always visit the campus for a coffee and a nostalgic walk around. Looking forward to it.
Weather here has been variable but yesterday was warm and sunny and it looks like today's cloud is now shifting. The temperature is meant to hit 26 degrees today.
Have been keeping up to date with chores, surveys and the garden. I have neglected the language courses but will probably return to them when summer moves into Autumn!
I am enjoying taking my time in the mornings, nice cup of tea in bed, morning exercises and then having breakfast.
However, early start on Monday for my trip as I am on the 7am ferry!
Finances going as planned, no overspending!7 -
Assume you were at Canterbury University as it’s the main one in Kent. My DH and I are here for a few days.1

Well I am off to Kent tomorrow so will be busy today preparing. Also have a family Sunday Lunch at my sister’s to attend. I must also remember to water pots and containers! I must also fill the petrol tank.
Yesterday I also booked a villa in Cyprus for a week next May. I also booked the flights and car hire. All deposits paid from travel pot. Final payments not due until next March. It is a 4 bedroom villa with a lovely pool. If other family members join us the cost of the villa to myself will keep decreasing which isn’t bad!

We spent a few days in Hastings in mid July driving down from the M25 through the High Weald of Kent visiting Chartwell and Hever Castle on the way. We were lucky enough to enjoy some good weather and were really impressed by the far-reaching views of open countryside in all directions. Kent and Sussex are beautiful counties, with so much to see in the way of historic houses, castles and other places of interest such as Battle Abbey and the Battle of Hasting battlefield itself. National Trust, English Heritage and Historic Houses membership is working out very cost effective for us this year as they covered all our entry fees to some amazing places.
We even caught the last day of Hastings Pirate festival!
Have a lovely holiday Baron_Dale and I hope you have some good weather.
