I wonder if the potential influx of ex-privately educated children to state schools after any tax changes will improve the quality of education in some areas using the same analogy?
Having worked as a teacher for 42 years in the state system, funding is the main issue!
Just checked some figures. Funding per private educated primary student about £12000 per year, state primary about £4200.(This includes all costs such as buildings tuition etc...) The gap for secondary students is even greater.
Strange how some people argue the amount of money spent per student shouldn't affect outcomes if the quality is good. Does that mean parents paying for private education are paying more than necessary? That opinion also undermines the argument that spending more per student makes no difference!
In countries with very few or no private schools outcomes for all students tend to be good and opportunities more equal in later life.
95% of UK children are state educated. I wonder if similar percentages can be found in certain UK professions?
Just my view and I will say no more.11 -
I have decided to set myself a financial challenge between now and the end of December of saving £4000 into my Cash ISA. I will report on my progress each month. The aim is to add £400 in July and £720 for 5 months after that. We shall see how it goes!7

If you are financially disciplined it's very easy to add to your savings.
I'm currently stoozing. Over 18 months ths will earn me over £1,200 in interest.
Bank switching offers also typically pay out £100-£200 each time. This past 9 months I've got about £1,100 all told.
I've also taken advantage of approx £700 in isa switching incentives over this period too.
That's £3,000 gained at no cost other than the damage to my credit rating!!2 -
@Organgrinder. Thanks for your response but as you well know I am not so driven to save as yourself. I am just trying to reach a certain level for my cash ISA and then stop.
I am not at all interested in bank switching or stoozing.1 -
@Skint_yet_Again many thanks for your response. I am not saving for anything in particular. I just want to reach a certain level and leave it.
In 2025 I will also attempt to bring my S&S ISA up to a certain level and then stop.4 -

I like my holidays. If by doing this I can afford another then happy days.
