My elderly relative is slowly recovering. So far I am well in myself. 🙏.
i collected my wrist watches from the jewellers yesterday. All of them working correctly with their new batteries, which is a pleasant surprise after leaving them for so long. Total cost for all four was only £24, which I thought was very good.
Spent yesterday giving the house the once over from top to bottom. I also did a top up shop. I am trying to ensure that I go out at least once a day be it for a walk or visit to town.
The weather has once again turned very wet and windy, but temperatures have risen. Being so far south snow is highly unlikely, for which I am grateful.
I am looking forward to the Spring. Being able to spend more time outside will certainly lift my mood. When the weather does improve I don’t have too much to repair/update outside I the garden. One side of fencing needs a repaint and my nephew is coming over to replace 3 pieces of my decking. I can then concentrate on the lawn and flower beds for the spring and summer months.
All the bulbs I planted in the pots and containers have come through and should provide some colour in the coming weeks.
I have never grown vegetables or fruit, lacking both the commitment and ability. I also like being able to only spend a few hours a week gardening and then just enjoying it lol.
My personality tends to like a clear start and finish time. I am not a ‘work in progress’ person!5 -
[Deleted User] said:I had a takeaway for the first time for about 4 years yesterday evening. The pizza was tasty enough bit certainly not worth how much paid! I will not be doing that again!
For comparison as a little treat for my elderly relative today I have just bought an M&S dine in for two. A main, side and dessert for two, for exactly half the price of the Pizza!
Successfully returned the jumper and went for the refund instead of the exchange, so that's £24 handing back to the clothing pot.River Cottage Family Cookbook has a good basic pizza recipe. I have found HFW’s books are usually good.2 -
I have a number of watches and to save batteries just pull out the little thingy on the side2

Shrove Tuesday today and I am looking forward to my pancakes with lashings of lemon juice and sugar!I am not taking a complete Lenten break from these forums this year. However, from now until Easter I will only check in and comment occasionally to this thread. I may read a couple of the others but will keep activity to a minimum. I am having a partial digital detox and aim to cut my online time on any device by 50%.My nephew completed a decking repair for me on Saturday. In return I bought him a new saw and gave him some money for a meal out.
I had a busy and productive day yesterday. I made the final payment for the flights and car hire to Cyprus. I also booked the Gatwick hotel for the night before departure as well as the airport parking and the ferry. Only the final villa payment now to be made in March.
I went to town to top up a couple of toiletries. I always like to have spares in the bathroom cupboard! I also booked an eye test for June. I will probably purchase a couple of pairs of new glasses then too.In addition I took delivery of some new shoes and another jumper.
I also managed a forest walk.
Car insurance payment leaves my account tomorrow. I also booked my car service and MOT for late. March. This year’s service is a major one and along with the MOT will be about £430. I had set a budget for £500 so that’s ok.
I have asked the company that cleans my windows for a quote to do the annual gutter, fascia and conservatory clean in late March or early April. I also want them clean the driveway and the garden patio areas,
The final major annual payment for house and contents insurance should be dropping into my inbox in March. Once again funds are in place and my elderly relative pays half of that bill too. Finally, I all the washing and ironing was completed in the evening. The bed linen and towels will be collected by the laundry late today. So much easier to have them done by a laundry company, and they always look and smell so good on their return!I have the washing machine on at least 3 times per week as I prefer to deal with small batches. I iron most things. As a male I find it quite satisfying lol!Off now for tea and biscuits and a read. Then exercises and getting ready for the day! It’s all go lo!5 -
On the subject of new glasses......I have varifocals and quite a strong prescription so high index lenses are a must for me. May I recommend Asda where these lenses are included as standard and not the ridiculously high prices some charge. I got two pairs for £120. Some charge more than than for one pair of lenses.2

As I like to have two pairs that's £240 on top of the £70 a pair or so. Sadly my prescription means I either have bottle ends or have to pay for the thinner lenses so £120 for two pairs is an absolute bargain.
I honestly don't know how Asda do it.1
