As above, my Moto G31 is 'stuck' on Android 11
No security updates since Nov 2022
G Play system update on 1/6/23

Any idea how to move it to Android 12?

  • I'm afraid that you are not alone, many complaints on the Lenovo (Motorola) support boards that the G31 was sold as having 2 years of Android updates and has received only one.

You can't force this update, enthusiastic users of the phone can root the thing and install an alternative but, of course, that invalidates any guarantee and will stop you using most banking apps.

This is the reason I've given up on Moto phones, decent enough handsets at a competitive price but their OS & security update policy is very poor. Now shifted to Samsung, £250 for an A-series phone with 4 OS updates and security releases for 5 years.

Same, Moto G 5G Plus, £300 quid and shelved after 18 months when security updates stopped.

Personally I would avoid the Moto G and Samsung A series phones and look more at the Google Pixel A series.

You have to be very careful with the Moto G and Samsung A series that they are using the 64bit Android OS as many don't, limiting what apps you can install (and will become fewer in the future) and that you will unlikely to get 4 updates as Google are likely to be dropping the 32Bit OS version possibly as soon as the next release or two.

Had a quick look at the Pixel 6a but there's no dual sim (I currently have O2 and Lebara ones in the Moto)
    Any other suggestions?

I see it with dual-SIM for £299 on Argos, no doubt elsewhere also...

Hmm, was hoping for maybe something cheaper ... any other suggestions?
  • Samsung Galaxy A34, 256 GB version, £254 at Currys (I know) with a trade in deal that I haven't checked but seems you can trade in anything with a plug...

    4 OS/5 years updates.

This seems to be the minimum sort of price that has to be paid for extended OS support.
