Everything is from the person who sent it. It is paid for by them and Santa delivers it, but we don't send things to him to be delivered, it just comes from his workshop..
  • For my DD everything is from the person its from, they have sent it to Santa for her, Santa pretty much just delivers it all.

That's what we do, FC collects the presents Christmas Eve in the afternoon and brings them all back in the middle of the night, ad we put candles in decorated jars up the path so he can see a sort of runway if he needs it. We've done it like that for years now.
  • For me, there was always a stocking, containing chocolate coins & nick nacks and stuff, occasionally a mug, or book or CD. All the bigger stuff was under the tree and came from family.

we told the kids we sent the money to santa and then he chose the pressies from the lists they sent. All relatives were kept under tree and they knew who had sent them.we found this easier as have big family and travelled from Brighton to Wales to deliver/collect so had to come up with good story for that.we left stockings and sacks downstairs-son was light sleeper so early on decided this was better so we all got some sleep xmas night!!
Each had special place for pressie-couch/chair by door, chair by telly etc-and still keep to this-the youngest is 22!!!!
All 3 now grown up but they still really enjoy the magic of xmas!! In fact must confess that about hour ago l placed a hand written letter from santa on my DDs pillow for when she gets in later-done in diff colour pen for every word and xmas stickies as she was remanicing about ones that used to arrive via post for each of them-l used to spend night shifts doing the 3 individual ones!!!!AHHHHH memories!!
    MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL
:j this money saving is such fun:T
  • When my kids were young and belived in father christmas, all the presents were from him. They gradually, through taliking to other kids at school decided that there was no such person and came to realise that the presents were from me. It seemed to be a seamless transition.

Everything from us is from Santa. It is not about wanting to take the credit it's about trying to make it magical for the kids and the reward is seeing that smile on their face. TBH I didn't realise it was done any other way.

As I said before, we split the gifts we buy between santa and us, but it's nothing to do with taking credit.

I've just been trying to work out why we do things that way. I never had presents from my parents (I can't recall questioning it either) although DH had santa and parents presents.

I believe we started doing seperate gifts because our ds had a ride on truck and we felt it was better to give it him later in the day when he could take it outside - so a practical thing really!

They've always had stockings left on the end of their beds and have always brought them into our room to open. There's no shortage of 'magic' and smiles! And they still have the presents from us to look forward to when we get up.

I really don't get the idea of santa picking presents up to deliver later, nor santa bringing the presents from relatives/friends.

It's interesting how many of us are/were oblivious to other ways isn't it? It just goes to show we don't discuss 'santa' much and most children obviously don't either!

We learned a valuable lesson here!
When our son was 5, he'd sat back satisfied at the fact that the floor was at least 3 feet below the level of discarded wrappings and asked "So what did you buy me for Christmas because all thsi is from Santa"
After my husband held me back from doing the famous Homer Simpson strangling move, we explained that Santa sends a bill and we pay for it all.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
  • When my children were young, the stocking came from Santa and was delivered to the foot of their beds, this could be opened whenever they woke up, but they weren't allowed to come downstairs on Christmas morning until 8am when I would go and tell them they could get up. Santa had left all the rest of the presents downstairs, these weren't from Santa however but from us and other relatives. The three girls would take turns at choosing one of their presents, reading the label to see who it was from, then opening it. As relatives gave us presents for the children or as we bought presents we would "telephone Santa" and ask him to send an elf to take the present to Santa for safe keeping.
  • My dd is 3 and we have just told her that santa is bringing all the presents. If next year she asks why we dont buy her anything then we will probably do half from us and half from santa.
  • I wish there was a legalised standard lol...I do what my mum did for me and what every kid in my neighbourhood/family had done for them...santa brings a sack/stocking of goodies, for my kids I guess I spend about £40 each maybe a bit more dependent on cash...but they get things like pens/felts/crayons/large tubes of sweets, character socks/knickers vest/books.....you know bits and bobs...semi useful things with an added extra.

They then get their large pressies from us so that like others have said the kids know damn well it is us who has paid for it and not from some magical mystery character with endless supplies of cash!! and relatives pressies come from them either they give them to the kids direct when we see them or if they have passed them onto me then they will also know this is from so and so.

My half sister who my mum had adopted when she was a teenager but we met a number of years ago, goes ballistic if there is a chance of her kids seeing me hand the pressies over as she takes all the labels off and says everything is from santa which I hate hate hate....so these two kids think the people who love them all year get them !!!!!! all at xmas, she doesnt understand that I am happy for her to hand the pressies to the kids direct and have her tell the kids put them under the tree and dont open them till the big day etc.

In the past when my kids have said blah blah gets a bike a playstation etc etc from santa how comes I dont i just tell them the truth and say santa only brings a sack full of goodies the parents are just mucking about...in my mind one parent who seems to do it different to the majority then has their kids thinking they are something special and santa cares more which is in fact what the parent had said which prompted me to tell the truth...am I evil maybe however why should my kids feel bad when we seem to do it the way of the majority, at least my kids know exactly where the gifts come from and understand it isnt an endless list they can produce etc :)
