How many from Santa, how many from you?

  • Main present is from us (so as they get older we can do a joint gift if they start asking for expensive consoles etc!) and is under the tree along with gifts from other people.

Then Father Chistmas comes and fills a stocking which they hang outside their bedroom door (so I don't have to disturb ;-) ), and then a sack as well in the living room.

santa fills the stocking and brings a big present they have asked for on their list ( bikes this yr for both sons) and we buy the rest (and leave them out on xmas eve,no sending away to santa to bring back and deliver  whats that all about ? ;) lol)

that way they dont think that santa will bring everything they have asked for ! after all santa has lots of children to deliver to :D

for those of you who say everything is from santa ,dont your children think its weird that mum & dad dont buy them anything ?! :rotfl:

Stockings from santa, with one or two bigger things from their list, and rest from us generally. They usually have the main present from us but if they want two smaller things then we tend to have one from is and one from santa.

I guess I work it out as I go along really - there's nothing set in stone!

I use different wrapping paper for santa's gifts and for each child too - makes it easier to sort them I find.

They've always been given their new pjs, from us, on xmas eve and we usually put the rest from us under the tree at same time santa delivers his.

This year, our presents to them have been under the tree since yesterday.

It has never occured to me to make gifts from relatives etc from santa. Why would people do that? confused-smiley-013.gif

TBH I don't think we've ever had any presents at all from Santa, they've all been from the people who sent them.
  • well i give to a few children at xmas and because they are my virtual children, if that makes sense (children of parents i am close to virtually). I always mark them santa, its much easier than the child on xmas day saving who is Noddy? What does she look like? However i always get a thankyou card from the parents :D

intersting what people do. We used to tell my son that we got the gifts but santa delivered, but as time has gone on and 2 more kids, we now do a stocking from santa and presents downstairs from us except for one each from santa and rudolph as a thank you for the treats they left. Last year they got a letter from him too, which they were thrilled with, or at least my middle child was, my eldest is 11 now and I know he knows the truth, but he tells everyone he believes in santa..lol.

Problems arose when family/friends wanted to give the kids presents themselves and it usually means them receiving them after Christmas and then the kids wanted to know why their presents were left with them and not at our house.
One year they were getting presents for a week!
I preferred that in a way, then they weren't overwhelmed by too much in one go.
Not worried about that this year, everyone is struggling and so they wont' have that much this time.
  • Everything from us is from Santa. It is not about wanting to take the credit it's about trying to make it magical for the kids and the reward is seeing that smile on their face. TBH I didn't realise it was done any other way.

    Edited to add
when the kids go to the grandparents they are told that Santa left the presents there too as he knew some kids come playing there sometimes. This is their choice - just makes it more special IMHO.

  • Santa brings all the gifts but we have to give him the money :)
We started this when oldest son was little because he wanted to know why santa brought lots of toys for kids when some just wanted food ! ( I think he was 4 at athe time)
So we help santa to get bits but if we have shopped or the postman comes the gifts get took to santa by the elves ;)

Love that the presents got taken to santa by the elves, so cute! I remember my mum used to do me a stocking with small gifts "from santa", a selection box, some toiletries etc. outside my door and all other presents were from grandparents or parents and relatives. I had to write everyone a thank you card after xmas so santa would be proud of me!!! Quite a good idea really as I only did it so santa wasnt cross with me!! It must have worked because I always do a thank you card now for anyone that buys me a gift, its all santa's fault:rotfl:
