hi all,
i'm new.
I hope you are all doing well.

I am on the hunt for a portable dab dab+ fm radio.
here are my requirements if possible.
note, i'm completely blind.
I don't require specially adapted radios or anything.

requirements:
portable dab/dab+/fm radio
should be small enough to fit in a small handbag, or the size of a small book?
should have a telescopic antenna that is swivelable and is not merged in to the device it's self.
should have a small speaker built in.
quite sterdy could take a few knocks a would have, not a have to.
really sensitive at getting distant multiplexes.
should take a rechargeble battery that is replaseble.
if not replaseble then has a really big mah.
less than £60
I don't own a mobile device
it's a common question.
wish to walk around with the radio and the like.
your experiences welcome.
often the experiences of others can be a really good help when makeing up your mind.
how good is the radio at finding new multiplexes?
a multiplex being a block of radio stations transmitted to a cirten area.
exammple here in coventry,
I get the now coventry multiplex.
how good is the radio at getting week signals from distant multiplexes?
how easy is it to navigate the station list?
thank you for reading my first post.
sorry for spelling errors, I use assistive tech due to being completely blind.

    hey there sir,
    what is the roberts offering?
i've herd negative things about the soney dab radio you've mentioned,
notibly, that the on/off switch would break very easily and completely fail lieveing you with a nice looking brick.
    thanks for responding :)

Mrs B has a Pure that has most of what you want, but never heard of multiplexes so can't comment on that!

A "multiplex" can be thought of in a similar way to  a .ZIP file ( i.e one file contains many )
So one transmitted signal which contains a number of different stations mixed (multiplexed) together
User doesn't need to get involved, DAB radio sorts it all out into different station

Digital  FreeviewTV works the same way

I've got a couple of small Roberts DAB portable radios. They are OK, but the batteries don't last long if you have them on a lot. I use rechargeables.

I think the size you're looking for (unless you have a very large handbag!) is going to be an issue. DAB is quite hungry on power consumption, and unless the radio is big enough to allow an adequate battery supply it'll eat through them very quickly.
I have a Roberts Play 10 (currently £43.97 on Amazon) that I use with 2 sets of 4 AA rechargeable batteries so that I always have a spare set available when the first set runs out (which it does without warning), but I think it's a bit big for a handbag.

    hi,
    well I say handbag, i'm a guy.
something with a speaker and is not to large would do.
a question since i'm thick it seembs.
is it better to get a radio with a built in battery with a large copacity or a radio with aa batteries?
requirements for sensitivity still remain. along with a small speaker.
    thank you

We have one of these in our office, don’t know why it’s tiny. Seems to do most of what you want worth a punt for £20?

If you are prepared to restrict yourself to stations on the FM band, then your batteries, both rechargeable or replaceable, will probably last for ages.
If you use DAB, then you are talking a lifetime of hours, and a very significant cost for replaceable batteries, or frequent charging for a rechargeable battery.  It would seem for ypu that a mains-powered radio is not an option.
There is a plethora of small radios available, each offering variations on your requirements, so you may have to just suggest which are most important to you.  My house has at least nine radios, all of which having differences - but my main criterion is stereo speakers!
