Gas Meter Still Increasing Whilst Gas Isolated (Siemens/Landis+Gyr E6S)

Back to the original post. EDF kept ignoring me, so I went back to the Ombudsman who came back with EDFs offer....
EDF has calculated my average kWh usage per day since the faulty meter was removed and the smart meter was installed in Dec '23 to end Mar '24 (4 winter months). They also calculated my average kWh usage per day from the date when I notified them of the issue (Aug '22) and the date the smart meter was installed (a 16 months period, including 6-8 months with very inclement weather in 2023).
They noted that the average for the former was around 40% greater than the average for the latter (duh!) and questioned whether I really wanted to be re-billed on that basis!
I've sent a fairly strong worded "you cannot be serious" response, and offered my data showing that usage since the smart meter was installed is 25-30% lower than the equivalent periods when the faulty meter was recording usage. I've suggested we wait till the end of summer to do the comparisons, but need EDF to agree to that.
They don't make it easy. Disappointed (but not surprised) that the Ombudsman even suggested that might be a resolution.2 -
TL/DR - no real update
I'd been chasing EDF for them to enter into a discussion on coming to an agreement on how we'd work out the extent of their overcharging due to the faulty meter, for the period between me joining them in November 2021, and the meter being replaced in December 2023.
As per the post above, EDF suggested (via the Ombudsman) that they use the 4 winter months Dec 2023 to March 2024 to pro-rata that whole period, which I of course blocked straight away. I suggested we take measurements at the end of this summer, and the Ombudsman have said that EDF agree with that.
On the usage front, my recorded usage with the new meter since it was installed in December 2023 till today is 31% lower than the equivalent usage recorded by the fault meter over the same period of time a year ago and nearly 40% lower than 2 years ago.

Hi @MeteredOut someone pointed me to this thread as have same issue. Currently recent massive jump in reading but possible small hikes over years now I’ve realised. Sorry to hear resolution has been poor for you.I went through the whole thread and possibly missed it. But did you ever find out what the A B C D codes mean?Thank you.0

Some have suggested b means low battery, E means error (I note you don't state E, but I got that a few times). I never saw a.
My recommendation to accelerate your resolution
1) Isolate the gas from the meter to see if it still increments
2) If so, record this (I did both video, but also a time-lapse photo video, as EDF could not accept large videos). I also uploaded these to YouTube
3) Raise a complaint with your provider
4) They will likely deny, ignore, obfuscate, delay things - getting to people who can/want to take the time to understand will be almost impossible
5) Assuming you have the same experience as me, open a case with the Ombudsman
If you have your records of past readings, that will help to articulate the issue. If you have photos of the meter from those readings, that should help too.
How big is the jump in readings you've seen, and which error codes are you getting?
EDIT: I've seen seen your thread, and you don't have the same meter, but I'd still recommend the steps above

Thank. Someone suggested I did have the same meter.I’ve had a 213 unit jump in a month I’d normally use 13 units. Looking back there have been periods with smaller jumps.Thank you for replying. Good luck with pursuing it.1

Quick update:
Gas usage, as measured by the smart meter since it was installed in December 2023, is 37% less than the equivalent period last year, and 45% less that the equivalent period the year before. And, that's with the heating being on for few hours a few times over the last 6 weeks - my heating was off permanently all summer from the start of June last year.
But it'll probably a few more months of tracking before I send find figures to EDF requesting my refund.3 -
Update on my dealings with Octopus. They had lost my faulty gas meter instead of testing it, replaced it with a smart meter, then after some arguing (and providing hours of video footage) agreed to accept it was faulty.
they were going to look at 3 months of usage with the new meter to calculate old usage then repay me.The 3 months is up and they have emailed me. About my ELECTRICITY meter, which was never in dispute . They are saying that the day/night on the old meter must have been transposed, based on my 3 months usage, and so either I can drop my complaint, or they will increase my old electricity bills and leave me even more worse off.No mention of my gas meter whatsoever and the £1000 a month bills on that.I checked my old electricity bills and I have no idea what they are talking about. Nothing was ever transposed. The bills correctly say I use more in the day; and get charged more in the day.Utterly useless people.1 -

When that particular issue gets resolved, beware the "3 months usage" check on the gas. EDF tried that with me, wanting to use 4 months of winter usage to calculate, pro-rata, what my annual usage might have been. Of course, with a straight line extrapolation, it turned out significantly more than the fault meter had actually recorded. Surprise!
But, if Octopus want to take the most recent 3 months gas usage for you (May-Jul), which I assume will have been low usage, and use that to calculate your annual consumption, let them at it!1 -
I think it will be Apr to June which would definitely be in my favour!0
