I'm glad you had a spare, @DigForVictory. Oddly, I was thinking I could do with a spare as we were out walking today and DH didn't have his keys on him. I think both of us need to have a key with a trustworthy neighbour or in a key safe or other discrete hidey hole.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

My (understandably peeved) son has suggested we buy a fake rock keysafe & I just pointed him at reddit which is helpfully vociferous on "don't do the blinking obvious". There are some shove into the soil fake watering point key hideys which could go easily under a leafy herb, but when the music stops, who's using it? The loyalty plastic key ring is in the car. The correct place for the house keys is in my pocket (ahem) and or his. I might snag an Altoids tin, bundle it in gaffer & add to the stone walls, just when it's needed, will I remember where the Dickens I left it?! Frankly, I think the smart move is to be a bit more thoughtful, and since I now know where a spare is, I can chill, and once he thinks about it, either so can he or he can hide a house key for himself. In a belt buckle. sewn into a favourite coat, under the insole of a trusted boot all bubbled up on reddit - along with whomever you go to to borrow the phone for a locksmith - maybe leave a key with them?!6

Or get a lock that you have to turn the key in? We have to lock our doors as we go out, we can't just slam the door shut behind us. Or give a key to a trusted neighbour, or family nearby. I wouldn't leave a key outside. It could invalidate your insurance.2025 Fashion on the ration

I have a wall mounted key safe which is fine .
needs a code to open it my son who lives 30 miles away and two local grandchildren ( in their 20s ) know the number so could get in if necessary5 -
My two friends and I have each other's keys, we are all single and live alone with a cat (and I have rabbits). We have a wall mounted key safe by the back door.As long as DH can remember the code he can get in the house5
