Prepping: the new world...

Some prepping is knowing where to look for the seasonal discounts & so far, Aldi Lidl & Sainsburys have marked their cards see Martin's roundup here6
-
Other prepping is finding a weather forecast you trust & making plans. The BBC still thinks I need a brolly. The Daily Star (link here. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/uk-weather-map-shows-christmas-36419587 ) thinks I need to plan for snow.
Naturally, I will do both & use it as a pretext to duck out of certain social shenanigans as living on a hill means wet & cold quickly becomes ‘tricky to get home in…’
I was looking for near zero temperatures to defrost & clean out the fridge & freezer. Just for anyone who was planning driving to see folks, having a plan B pencilled in will mean they know to phone & ask how are you/where are you question within an hour of your expected eta. (You don’t figure your travel plans & times in that detail? The detailed Scout Expedition planning protocols, designed to keep the young safe, may come in handy. It’s not eccentric if it means your host knows you are stuck in traffic on a motorway in the snow with 14 other cars & the latest forecast is that not only will you not make it for lunch at one but will possibly be yearning for a mug of soup, warm bath & the loan of a dry outfit including footwear at about 9 this evening…)12 -

Wish things would go that low here. Not even Aldi's is having specials like that.7

Just wanting to check - am I right in thinking you can keep potatoes for weeks in a pillow case so long as the fabric is breathable (ie not the plastic bag they get sold in), and kept in the cool & dark?
How do you coax parsnips & carrots to last without refrigeration/prep & freezing?4 -
@DigForVictory have you got any sand? Carrots & parsnips store well covered in sand, and yes to the potatoes.£71.93/ £180.005

<adds swinging by the builders merchants to the Last Shop Before Christmas list...> I presume you have to keep them dry?4

Yes, it mimics a soil clamp, which was used for a lot of root veg before fridges were invented.£71.93/ £180.005
