Private number plates - narc or normal? :-)

I just saw a car at the tip, numberplate SLO GRO. Well that doesn't work in any legal format, does it. Got quite close before working out they had stuck a black screw in and a little tiny extra bit on the bottom of a 1, and it was actually S10GRO. They looked quite normal nice middle aged couple, just shows you can't judge by people's appearance.2

Is there any rules on adding a letter before the number plate?
EG EF18 adding a J on the bumper before the plate?

I walked past a Black Lambourgini Aventador? At the weekend with the number plate MR B4T but I guess you aren't much of a shrinking Violet with a car like thatMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

We have 3 cars with personal number plates. Advantages:
* Less likely to get stolen.
* You can always remember the number when at car park pay stations or filling in forms.
As this is a money savings forum I think it only right to point out that some people make a good profit from reselling them.1 -

I do know someone who claims her personalised plate makes her less likely to be a target of vandalism at football matches, as she can't be identified as home or away by the plate. Weight that against the point above and the risk of "jealousy stripes".
Fair point if you have a poor memory then having a plate you take from car to car would help with that, but that still doesn't mean faking it up to look like something else. And my friend with the personalised plate had her car broken into and purse stolen in which she had her PIN number written down because she couldn't remember that either.

The best one I've seen round where I live is L33 DSU (with the club badge on the end), which for a football fan (in Leeds) is spot on. Probably will retain it's value.0

These certainly could be three advantages. May I ask if they are the reasons you have them?

I have seen 'FU 2' on a Roller/Bentley - not sure which- young blonde lady driver, and 'PEN 15' - this belonged to a motorcycle racer/commentator i believe. 'BAR 51X' - a Bar Six was a copycat Kit-Kat back in the day. Not forgetting a Frog-eye Sprite (60's sports car) with coolest ever 'RAD10'.
As children, my brother and used to 'spot' cars, trucks and numberplates on every trip. There used to be 'I-Spy' books to record and identify the areas/counties vehicles were registered. And we both still 'spot' plates, much to the annoyance of our spouses
I have a 'good' plate on retention - paid little, probable MSE investment.....1
