The old prices look a bit low so I suspect they have increased them to the cap prices.I suspect you are in the North West. 48.96 + VAT is 51.41, 27.72 + VAT is 29.11, the cap prices for NW.1

The Ofgem cap for gas isn't regional - it's 29.11p inc VAT - 27.72p ex VAT - for DD (Ofgem other payment). The cap for electric is highly regional - 48.96 is pretty close to the rounded 49.0 ex VAT in the North West region - in this govt tableAnd the Ofgem price cap - again for North West - single rate elctric - from the nil kWh column from the ther payment table - of £178.73 pa ex VAT - or 48.967p ex VAT or 51.41p inc per day.The Ofgem price cap did not change the standing charges between periods 10a (Apr Jun) and 10b (Jul-Sep). Those tables can be found at
If I was to make a guess - I would say that the cheaper June rates were discounted (edit: or perhaps a fix ?) - and the July rates are normal cap - if the figures you quoted were ex VAT.
