Legally marry and not inform anyone - official or family

Can you legally get married in the UK and not tell anyone?
By anyone - I mean ANYONE, family, friends, employers, the state, 'official' people.
I know you're wondering why. The main reason being that we don't want anyone to know as it would cause a lot of family problems, arguments etc (we're not cousins by the way!) But I wondered if you can, legally get wed and then not have to tell anyone.
Might sound a bit weird as its supposed to be a joyous thing, and it would be just between us 2, but if it was public, the plop would hit the fan.

No reason you have to tell friends or family but there are advantages to letting other certain individuals know. Like your employer who will be more likely to deal with your spouse should you die. Maybe also ensure that you have wills/letters of intent filed with a solicitor - again for the extreme circumstances - so that whomever is left behind doesn't get into a legal dispute by family members who don't think that someone is "next of kin".I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Oh - and I believe you must declare such things for certain benefits being paid correctly as you might end up being considered to have behaved fraudulently.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards.
