You can not claim via the CAA’s ATOL for the cost of the inter-island ferry.

I’ve never booked a package holiday that didn’t include transfers. That alone would have made suspicious.
That doesn't mean they don't exist.  I have three packages booked this year, none of them include transfers.  They are offered, but aren't part of the package price.

Think this is the difference between a traditional package holiday which you book with a tour operator and a booking with an agency that legally counts as a package holiday because it contains two aspects booked at the same time but is predominately users self serving gluing two or more things together.

As noted in this case unfortunately it opens up the risk of error because broad searches enable you to book a flight to one place, car hire in another and hotel in a third. Great if thats what you want to do but unfortunately some will book on price and be ignorant of the distances between their bookings.

Same here, I stopped doing packages many years ago but due to issue with self arranged holidays during the pandemic I have been booking a few through agents like Tui and Easyjet holidays. Some don't automatically give transfers and it is an add on option where you can proceed without, opt for a standard coach or go for private transfers (at extra costs).

I was pricing something last night and the basic package came up with several add ons, including transfers, luggage, pre booked seats etc.  I think that was Easyjet, and I certainly paid extra as an add on with them for taxi transfers on my last city break.

Just think lastminute should of made it very clear that the accommodation was on another island
They did as far as I can see with their message on the website when you booked, which you obviously missed at the time.

I assume you received an ATOL Certificate which indicates in the bottom right-hand corner that it was a package? If so there appears to have been a serious failure on LM's part and you should be looking to recover all your expenses and compensation
  • yes it states its a package holiday.

During the Covid travel dramas I asked ABTA to define a package holiday because a certain well known tour operator was hesitant to do so in respect of a flight and hotel reservation I had booked with them without transfers.
I may have their response letter somewhere - they replied that if you have any two of these three fundemental elements then that constitutes a recognised package deal.
Persuading the tour operator to honour that in practice is possibly more of a challenge - fortunately ours did when flights were cancelled, we received a full refund.
