What compensation should I expect?

Hello  I was due to fly today from Exeter to Zakynthos at 0820 departure. The flight was repeatedly delayed and now fully cancelled.

I have been told that I am being put in a hotel overnight whilst they decide what happens.

In the two scenarios, if they offer a replacement flight tomorrow OR if they fully cancel our trip, what compensation, refund etc can I expect per person?

I'm reading £350 per person for both scenarios? Is that the same if they cancel our holiday completely?

What a shambles.

what is the reason for the cancellation? (only delays/cancellations within the airline's control get compensation so if weather/ATC etc there is none)
Is this a package holiday or flight-only booking?
  • Its a package holiday,  and its been cancelled due to technical issues with the aircraft.
  • If it helps at all,  my flight is now rescheduled for 0820 tomorrow

If the cause was a technical issue then the airline is liable to pay compensation of £350pp, and to pay for overnight accommodation and meals, under articles 7 and 9 respectively of the UK 261 flight regulations.

The package organiser is also required to offer a price reduction for the shortened holiday under article 11(7) of the Package Travel Regulations, assuming you still wish to travel, or you could insist on a refund if not.

Thank you both. We still plan to go and still hope to be able to enjoy what we can have left.

Oddly enough this is the third time in a row weve had these issues with compensation paid out after. However previous times the flight was delayed not cancelled so was much more clear cut.
  • Thanks for your advice so far, I've submitted a message to them regarding the alteration recompense

  • Before I ruin any chances I have at resolving both parts of this, their response is below. Do you think they will bundle the compensation for the shorter holiday onto the same payment?

As mentioned above, it's the airline that's responsible for paying compensation for flight delays, but the package organiser who's liable for compensating for a shorter holiday, so they are separate claims against different entities (even if they're both parts of the same TUI group).

Get on with enjoying your holiday and sort out the admin when you get back! :)
  • Ah I didnt really realise that. Thank you.
