Where I am there is a local transmitter which has fewer channels which means no HD,
Every single UK UHF TV site broadcasts the PSB HD multiplex aka BBC B. All 1100+ of them.  You are spouting nonsense.

    The TV is ue43j5500ak Samsung

The wall plate has SAT1 SAT2 TV RADIO.
The TV has a pin input (male?) same as my TV aerial wire so I bought a female coupler to attach. Attach appears a bit loose, I don't know if that is an issue?
Previous property the Aerial cable joined up, no coupler needed.

    I'm an owner, leasehold apartment

By fly lead, do you mean different coupler? The one I bought was from Amazon.

I can't see any boxes etc anywhere and I can't see how anything may have been removed, I'm on 2nd floor with another above. It's an old building though ~100 years
A communal antenna installation then... Talk to neighbours.

Try a different joiner / coupler or a bought male to female fly lead.  If the plug on the wallplate itself is loose or damaged it won't help signals and if a communal system might need replacing by the building managing agents?

Usually in most communal installations SAT2 also carries the UHF signals so a f-plug to TV plug lead would likely work.  {Not all communal installs work that way though}.

If your TV has a screw f-socket connection then it has a satellite tuner and could use the SAT signals instead (or as well)?

Ask the premises managing agents to check out the system after doing all the checks. You'll be paying for maintenance of it in the service charges.  They sometimes still have in-dwelling signal splitting/amplification in hallway cupboards.

What did the previous owner state on the Legal Sales Form (TA something?) about TV signals ??  It's a standard legal question I believe.

Use the manual tuning / signal meter as I said before with the HD frequency... and the others for comparison.  Read the e-Manual.

Thanks I'll try and do these next week. Even the terrestrial signal is a bit shaky, very annoying. I thought I'd get HD quality using smarthub to access BBC channels but appears not the case.

Not sure what exactly 'smathub' is, but you can watch BBC over the internet. E.g. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/live/bbcone
I think it's HD, but not sure.

Our local transmitter is described as a Freeview Light transmitter and has Public Service Broadcasting channels only. It says on the info you can't get: 4seven, 5Action, 5STAR, 5USA, Al Jazeera Eng, Blaze, Blaze +1, CBS Reality, Challenge, Channel 5 +1, CITV, YAAAS!, Dave, Dave ja vu, DMAX, Drama +1, E4 Extra, Film4 +1, Food Network, GB News, GREAT! movies, GREAT! movies action, HGTV, HobbyMaker, ITV2 +1, ITV3 +1, ITV4 +1, ITVBe +1, Legend, PBS America, pick, Pop Player, Quest +1, Quest Red, Really, Sky News, Smithsonian Channel, Talking Pictures TV, TCC, That's TV (UK), Together TV, W, Yesterday +1.

If it's these you are missing, it could be the type of transmitter you can receive from. Most people round here use satellite to pick up a wider range of channels.

When I moved into a 20yr old house and called for help it seems the aerial hadn't ever been connected - ie the socket/cable to the aerial.
It was also suggested to get a new aerial for digital due to age.

Works fine. But I still have to select the location. I'm on the Bristol Channel and I get Welsh tv unless I select specifically for Mendip.

Done another reset and rescan came up with FEWER channels this time! Missing 25 or so now! Inc 3,4,5. Ridiculous. I'll be ordering a new aerial cable and coupler this week. Haven't had a chance to ask a neighbour. Is Amazon firestick or something a last resort?

I use a firestick and it is very good. Argos often have them on offer as well so you may pick one up cheap. I don't think I have actually used my aerial connection since getting it
