First West of England have recently installed contactless tap on/off.

If you use the app, you get a QR code on the phone screen to use, and you have to scan it. The problem is, if the app isn't open on the right screen (scanning an activated ticket), the tap on aspect of the NFC Apple Pay can still trigger.

Now, you say Natwest say it was the card - so does your wife also keep her card in a wallet next to or near her phone? Is there any chance the bus reader scanned the card rather than the mobile app ticket?

You can ignore the time as other posters have said, as it will only reconcile at some point in the future; especially if you didn't tap off to complete the journey.

My wife had a transaction pop onto her phone last night. Her card had been used on a bus (tap on tap off) at 6am last Monday, the bank holiday.

We were both in bed at that time and the card was in her bag.

My bank recently issued me with a new debit card despite the current card having many months to go before expiry.
The new card was ready to use without needing to be activated.

Is it possible that your bank has posted out a new debit card to your wife but it has been intercepted or delivered to the wrong address and is now in the hands of a stranger?

Not unless it had been used Chip & PIN beforehand. This is the reason cards are delivered with the contactless functionality disabled.
    Even in transit mode?
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?
