Chase debit card

I have a Chase debit card, which is great for spending abroad, giving the perfect rate, however when I have withdrawn cash from atm`s I have been charged extra. Anyone else had the same situation?

Hello, I use the chase card on a regular basis abroad. Chase do NOT charge for ATM withdrawals and indeed they give better rate of exchange. However, some Banks impose charges for the use of their ATM, some a fixed fee others percentage based. Always do the transaction in local currency eg euros(do not request conversion!) Regards.

PS my experiences are all in Europe

If you've been charged then it's probably a fee imposed by the ATM rather than Chase. Always read what the ATM says before you use it as they should tell you any fees that they impose.

As above - Chase are not charging you a fee, however the bank which owns the ATM may, in fact most now do to varying amounts.
Banca March in Spain/Canaries impose no fee, for example, although they are in a very small minority.

This page explains the fees: https://www.chase.co.uk/gb/en/legal/fees-and-charges/

But this charge is a ATM fee, not a Chase fee as not all ATMS are free.

It's possible that there's a fee associated with the ATM. In fact it's often needed these days to find 2-3 different ATMs before one will allow to withdraw for free.

In Poland, this is generally Millennium Bank, in Ukraine Ukrsibbank (actually BNP Paribas Group in general tend to be free), in Georgia last year was Liberty Bank as TBC have started to charge now. Armenia was probably the only country last year I was in that didn't require searching (and definitely neither Ameria or Artsakh bank charge, not sure about others).

I can't speak for other countries as I haven't withdrawn cash there and prefer in general to pay for most things with a card.

Banca March in Benidorm charged me €6 for a cash withdrawal last month but no charge in Tenerife earlier in the year.

Very unusual - did you use the same card on each occasion ?

Or did you approve sterling conversion rate offered by bank?
