As an ex-employee I was surprised that years after leaving Capita they seem to continue to cause me sleepless nights.

I am livid that despite releasing some very personal data into unknown hands in perpetuity they are only offering a basic complementary credit check for a single year.

As many articles seem to suggest Barings Law have taken an interest I am tempted to instruct them to act on my behalf and was wondering what would be the up and downsides of doing so, or if there is a better way to proceed.

Agree, insulting that one years credit check is being offered. Our data will be out there indefinitely, I am particularly concerned that as I get older and possibly less able to deal with potential "hacks" that I will become more vulnerable. I would be interested to know what legal recourse we have and pros and cons of a class action, not something I have ever considered but given the significance of the data loss I would appreciate some advice...
  • I have just received my second letter from Environment Agency Pension Fund, adding information about the Data "Exfiltration" from the Capita systems. It is worse that at first thought and data loss for me included - address, DOB, email address, Employment details and history, expression of wish details, gender, HMRC data, location data, marital status, name, NI number, Area postcode, Postcode, Spouse details, bank details, pension amounts and history, Salary, Sexuality!!
Currently all that they offer is an apology and a 1 year free subscription to Experian Identity Plus - clearly not long enough as this will affect me for years to come.  They also ask me to take actions to monitor for and guard against fraud / scams etc across all of my activities!  I see that Legal firms are already being approached for Class Action legal suits.

I am apalled by their lack of appreciation of the effect this has on what are vulnerable pensioners (many not IT competent).  I for one am already suffering from worry / anxiety over the potential effect of this on the rest of my life.
  • Received my letter about the breach last week (like, we are end of July now!)
I have setup my complimentary Experian Identity Plus. But now I can longer see my credit report - used to check weekly to see if my credit score was improving/declining. Can't see anything to do with a credit score anymore. Anyone else experiencing this?

I setup my Experian Identity Plus at the start of June. Just logged in and my credit score is still visible (Score>Your Score at the top of the page). I did have issues activating the Identity Plus offer and Experian were helpful in resolving this, so maybe contact them.

Anyone else receive an Experian report recently “ Your details have been found online, take action now”? They’ve found my email address being sold online?

No, nothing from Experian since setting up Identity Plus at the start of June.

Yes, I've had that.  Fortunately just my email address.  I doubt it came from the capita leak - it's an address I use for loads of things.  [I also have an address I only use for banking - not even capita have that!].

It's not uncommon for email addresses to be sold online. In fact I'd be surprised if your email address isn't known if you use it widely.
You can check if your email address has been compromised in any known data breaches here:
I have 3 email addresses I commonly use, and all 3 have been compromised multiple times.
This is why it is so important to use a different random strong password for each and every site you use online, especially where your email address is also your user name (hopefully I'm preaching to the converted).
