Anyone else receive an Experian report recently “ Your details have been found online, take action now”? They’ve found my email address being sold online?

It's not uncommon for email addresses to be sold online. In fact I'd be surprised if your email address isn't known if you use it widely.
You can check if your email address has been compromised in any known data breaches here:
I have 3 email addresses I commonly use, and all 3 have been compromised multiple times.
This is why it is so important to use a different random strong password for each and every site you use online, especially where your email address is also your user name (hopefully I'm preaching to the converted).

I agree. I have an email address I use for on line orders and that has a different password for each place.

Yep - the good news is my data is already out there from multiple sources anyway as organisations appear incapable of adequately securing our data online.

  • I have been affected as I had a letter about my pension.  I keep hearing on radio about compensation but do you have to prove you have had adverse affects?  Can’t believe everyone entitled for compensation simply for the breach?

I had a letter last week as well. I have taken up the offer of the Experian subscription and I don't believe my data has been used aggressively up to this point at least. I think compensation would be limited to those who have lost moneys due to the breach or those who can claim some sort of mental or physchological damage due to the breach. Suffice to say I won't be pursuing any compo!

If your personal information has been exposed in the Capita data breach, you may be eligible to make a Capita data breach compensation claim. Organisations have a legal duty to securely store and process information they hold about individuals. You don't have to have suffered loss, you are compensated for distress.

So those are the legal points, but I haven't found a Firm that I like to take it on.
  • Anyone recommend a firm to claim compensation on my behalf?
