This is quite a hard OP to follow - a more bullet-point timeline would be easier to follow.
It is a business purchase so consumer rights don't apply, but there may be remedy under contract.
It is also important to split out those items that are linked or possibly linked to the supply of the vehicle and those which are unconnected to the supplying Dealer or wear-and-tear.
I have tried to break things out below:- OP purchased a vehicle in October 2022 - Peugeot Boxer van.
- Commercial vehicle purchased for the OP's business. Is that sole-trader or Ltd Co.
- How old was the van at purchase? What mileage?
- Price paid £22k (plus VAT / including VAT?)
- Was the van under an "approved used" scheme? Was there some alternative warranty offered? For how long?
- Was the van still benefitting from any of the manufacturer's original warranty?
- Purchased prior to a trip abroad, possibly purchased unseen and untested. Why? Could the purchase have waited until the OP returned from abroad?
- Was this a totally remote purchase, or did the OP view / test the van prior to purchase?
- How far is the Dealer from where the OP lives?
- OP arranged for a friend to receive delivery of the van - on delivery the van was "immaculate" and photos taken by the friend show this to be the case.
- The OP returned from abroad (how long after the delivery of the van?)
- By this time, the van had a dent and scratch on the side loading door plus damage underneath the side door. This damage was not mentioned by the Dealer - nor was it mentioned by the friend who took delivery of the "immaculate" van. It would appear as though this damage occurred somehow after the delivery of the van and is not something that can be pursued against the supplying Dealer. The OP may be able to claim on their insurance in place at the time.
- Over 6 months, a number of issues have arisen...
- OP considers that "under consumer rights laws i have the right to reject the vehicle for a full refund as it is not fit for purpose". As a business purchase, this is most likely not the case - consumer rights do not extend to B2B transactions. The OP needs to consider redress under the terms of the sale.
- When the faults first arose, did the OP report to the supplying Dealer / warranty company and allow them the opportunity to remedy first before engaging third party garages?
- The van pulls to the left, but this is not the tracking, nor the steering. The OP can't find the problem - is there a problem? How is the problem demonstrated if the alignment centre and Peugeot Basildon unable to replicate the fault?
- The temperature gauge shoots up the max, the van jerks, and an error message of “radiator temperature fluid high” shows. Basildon diagnosed a fault and a new clutch switch at a cost of £210 is required. How is a coolant issue possibly linked to the clutch? Has the OP checked the fluid levels in the van as per the manufacturer's manual? What is the fault with the clutch? Is that wear-and-tear?
- Faulty radio - how is it faulty? Could it be tolerated on a used van?
- Faulty air-con - how is it faulty? Is it just a regass required? That may well be considered wear-and-tear.
- Squeeky brakes - maybe they just need bedding in. Why was this not reported at day one?
- Headlamp bulb blew. Most likely wear-and-tear consumable item outside of any warranty.
- What has actually happened with the wheels? Is the rust on the wheels or the brake discs / drums?
- Plastic rattling sound. Loose plastic trim. These might be one and the same. Does the sound stop if the trim is fixed in place? Try a temporary fix - duck tape or similar. If that is the problem, it should then possible to work how to to fix it properly.
- What was the diagnostic fee for?
- How many miles as the OP done in the van in the 6-months since purchase?
I hope that helps - if you are able to give more complete information, there are more likely to be people here that can give better guidance as to what the next steps might be. There may even be contributors with specific knowledge of the Boxer vans.gavino76 said:Hello guys.
I bought a van a few days short of 6 months ago and i am having many problems with it. i intend to reject it, and i have drafted a letter, i wonder if anyone could run an eye over it first please? to check if its ok?im going to send it to customer care, and cc in the finance company. thanks!!
helloIn october 2022 i purchased a peugeot boxer online from you shortly before i went abroad. The sales team reassured me that the vehicle would be delivered in “showroom condition” The van was delivered looking immaculate, photos were sent from my friend who took delivery. However, when i returned i was surprised to find a dent and scratch on the side loading door, with damage underneath the side door, none of which was advertised, or mentioned prior to the sale.over the past 6 months, a number of issues have also arisen, meaning that under consumer rights laws i have the right to reject the vehicle for a full refund as it is not fit for purpose. The issues are as follows:The van has been also been pulling to the left intermittently, and after having to take time off work to go to an alignment centre, the tracking was found to be perfect. After taking more time off work to take the van into peugeot basildon, they could not find a problem with the steering , not even having test driven it. Im certainly not happy at having to waste time trying to find a problem with a £20,000 van.The temperature gauge shoots up the max, the van jerks, and an error message of “radiator temperature fluid high” shows. Basildon diagnosed a fault and a new clutch switch at a cost of £210 is required. The DAB radio and controls are faulty and basildon have quoted approximately £1715 for parts and labour to replace. The air con does not work. The brakes have been squealing since the day of delivery. Both headlights went out whilst driving on the motorway at 530am in complete darkness. a bulb has been replaced at my own time and expense and has gone out again and not been touched since. On the day of delivery the wheels looked perfectly clean and tidy, however, all 4 are now rusting heavily and also flaking. So the wheels are either terrible quality or your dealership has gone to great lengths to deliberately hide the rust from me prior to the sale. There is a loud, incessant plastic rattling sound which has been present since the day of delivery and is slowly driving me crazy, and basildon were unable to find the problem.the plastic trim on the dashboard is now loose and vibrates frequently.I have paid the best part of £20,000 for this van, and have been in and out of garages, time off work, and had to pay for a diagnostic fee. It is completely unacceptable. Please let me know how you can help me with this matter.thank you

No consumer rights as this is a business purchase.Damage to the loading door isn't the traders issue if it was delivered in immaculate condition.Have you check the mileage from delivery to when you came back? Your 'friend' hasn't been using and abusing it has he/she?1

Why nearly 6 months to get to the point of rejection, given the litany of apparent faults? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Either as a moderator to close this as you will use the thread in the Motoring forum:

Or, ask for the threads to be merged.
Or, just don't respond here and allow this to die in lieu of the thread in the Motoring forum1 -
Since this is a business purchase any automatic right to reject is out the window. No point quoting consumer rights law to them. You're not a consumer. So you are going to have to show something that amounts to grounds to cancel the sale contract. Was there some material misrepresentation? Honestly, buying a business van sight unseen for 20k is not a clever move. Was there any warranty offered?0

I feel your pain.
Been driving around in a boxer hire van for the last fortnight.
600 miles in the clock when delivered.
Plastic rattle behind dash when it warms up,worse when turning left.
Indicator bulb on passenger side mirror flashes a couple of times then stops, throwing up message on the dash.Flimsy steering wheel volume lever already loose.
It's a hire van ,and will go back in a couple of days, but these are really cheaply made.2
