Excessive energy bill - e-on (sainbury's fixed tarrif until 2023) - please advise best steps

I'm with e-on and they keep putting my price up according to their estimates although I have given them meter readings
They now want to charge me £395 p/m

I'm on a fix tarrif too until dec 2023 and i'm not sure how to work out why its costing me too much? is it my devices

Electricity (current rarrif)

Fixed term ends 18/12/2023
26.54 p/kWh 39.41 p/day
(All rates inc. VAT

Gas
Fixed term ends 18/12/2023
6.95 p/kWh 26.12 p/day
(All rates inc. VAT

now when i joined E-ON IN DECEMBER 2021

(18/12/21) -  METER READING
MY METER reading was 45476 for electricity  and for Gas it was 14129

14/04/21 - METER READING
and now for example my meter reading is 62525  for electricity and Gas is 14901

does this seem right? after 15 months of use

The e-on website isn't the most detailed, as im on a fixed tarrif i thought its safe sticking with them rather then switching?

i only have details of what they have charged me for electricity ans gas each month and there are sometimes multiple dates within the same month of different charges

i don't have a smart meter, would that make a difference? (it wouldn't really isolate my devices or what is using so much electricity right?)

My property and usage

medium sized 3 bedroomed house

i rarely use my nest / radiator heating and have a oil heater  2.5kw (delognhi dragon) https://www.amazon.co.uk/DeLonghi-Dragon-TRD41025T-Filled-Radiator/dp/B00CA1T076?th=1 in a single room on let's say 6 hours a day when i am at home, when its a hot day - its off or i'm away its off etc

general tv / computer equipment will be on standby

ANOTHER POSSIBLE ISSUES.  IS THIS POSSIBLE? AND WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO RECTIFY THIS?

There was a comment my neighbour (now moved) which i thought was an odd comment to make, he said the electricy from his garage is linked to my property.
i didn't really think anything of it, but i did ask my electric company at the time and they said it wasn't, but that doesn't sound concrete to me.

i remember trying at the time to check when the neighbour was using electric devices, to turn my switches off at the consumber unit, but his devices still were powered.  (again i don't think this is neccessarily definite, as they could have been running the power via another outlet (non-garage power source)

i don't see any cables runnings from his garage (which is directly next to my property) running to my house

my consumer unit was newly installed when i had my garage converted to a kitchen a few years ago, albeit same location and i'm not sure if its even possible - the wiring has to be connected from that garage to my unit right? or can it bypass it)

my meter box is outside my house on the wall.

my neighbours unit would be in their garage if i recall correctly (i do not take a closer look to see if its in front of their properly, although i think its just the gas meter)

what is the best way of finding a solution to the above to rule out any third party feeding off my electricity line?

if i call an electrician will they be able to diagnose it?

please advise

thank you

I presume you mean 14.4.23    -  but 20,000 kWh for electric is WOW.

Are you sure of these readings ?

Switch that oil heater off - use the gas as its 1/3 of the electric price
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Ok, have you submitted any meter readings in the meantime? Or do you just have a start and one from now?

On your gas meter, does it say anywhere cubic feet or m3?

How much have you been paying each month? From when you moved into the tariff until now?

I wouldn’t worry too much about your neighbour until we get the other bits sorted. It’s quite unlikely!

    Yea sorry 2023.

I have only recently started giving them meter readings but it does seem excessive

    for example

    13/03

    61396 - electricity
    14844 - gas

    and today

    14/04

    62545 - electricity
    149091 - gas

    Will a smart meter help?
I keep for example my oil heater plugging in although it's on a timer ... could that be draining energy 24-7 etc . I will turn to gas now I think and see if that reduces the cost

I'm not sure what else it could be

I have provided reading in recent. Months but not consistently since 2021

    It says m3  yes

How much have you been paying each month? From when you moved into the tariff until now?

I was paying around £140 and then they emailed saying I had to pay more and I noticed a big - debt charge too which is around 1300£

    ok that's good to know
Answered above thanks for your help

Your electric is incredibly high .

A smart meter will make no difference unless there is a fault with the electric meter

You need to cut back on your electric use and increase the gas use

First you need to be sure of your annual consumption.  I assume the 2nd set of readings are for 14/04/22 ( not 2021 ), and if you take readings now you will have annual consumption for the last 12 months.  Also you need to confirm if your gas meter is reading in ft3 or cu.m.    Initial reaction is your electricity consumption is very high.  You mention that you use an electric heater - how are you heating the rest of a 3 bedroom house?

I would then take monthly meter readings, so you will be confident on what you are being billed, and also see how your consumption falls as you move into summer.

Look for high rated devices such as immersion heaters, tumble dryers, electric shower,  as well as electric heaters and try to reduce how much you are using.

I don't really hear the other rooms just the occasionally Dyson heater on for a 5-10 minutes and another oil heater for a hour .  Washing machine use a couple of times a week. I don't use the electric shower anymore (past 3 months)

For the electricity usage it seems that you have used 17,049 kWh over 482 days, which is 35.37 KwH per day, or about three time the typical usage. You annual consumption would be 12,910. As others have said, time for some serious cutbacks.

Time for some serious investigation me thinks

1,149kWh in the last month is insane

Switch all power off at the meter for a couple of hours or overnight , take meter readings before and after and see if anything clocks up.

So we don't think the neighbours garage is a probability

Who knows till you check it out

Switch your consumer unit off so you have nothing on then get the neighbour to run something in his garage while you watch the meter

You have to be in the process of elimination, something is using a heck of lot of juice and you need to find what it is

Do you have multiple freezers in your garage (or your neighbours) ?
