My mum bought me an Easter egg up until she died, and I was in my very early 20s.

I got one up to being 40.
Then my father passed. He would always buy the reduced eggs after easter.
Serves me right for having an accountant as a father.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

I think it's fortunate he used to find them after Easter.  Here, in more than one year there's been none left on the shelves before Easter Sunday. I even texted a friend this year a day or two before Good Friday to warn her stocks were getting low as she'd been caught out before.

This year my DD's birthday falls on Easter Sunday and it's her 21st. We couldn't do much for her 18th as it was just as we were having  the first restrictions eased from lockdown3. She's going to be out of the country on her birthday though - think it was the thought of the shops being shut - hahahha.

That left me with a bit of dilemma, what to do when I had that combo, Easter & 21st birthday, not here but able to be more 'special' than her 18th had been.

In the end I decided to set a budget for DD and a combined one for DS and DiL, I optimised this by buying eggs when on offer with a Mr T Clubcard. DS and DiL have one large egg each and DD smaller ones but more of them. I felt this gave a balance by acknowledging the different life stages  they are at, whilst not leaving anyone out. . DS and DiL are older,  married, working, and live independently of us. DD is a student who still lives at home outside of term times, and has a significant birthday that day. I also bought DH a medium sized eggs
  • It wouldn't be Easter without the overpriced chocolate and  all the extra packaging.

I gave up giving Easter eggs to my grandchildren about 5 years ago when they were 18 and 16. They got so many, about 12 ,from relatives.

My 3 all in their mid twenties and threaten to report me to social services if I don't buy them an easter egg!
  • My father, who, how should I put this, was careful with money, never used to get me Easter Eggs as a child but would instead get one of those giant bars of chocolate. When I first complained he showed me the weight of chocolate In was getting in the bar as opposed to the weight of chocolate I was getting with an Easter egg. He had a point, though as a child I would have still preferred the egg.

I do think this, it's not always to do with the weight. You can buy a bar of x gram choc all year round. It's the 'specialness' (is that a word-lol!)  and the different thinness of chocolate and novelty of an egg that you can only buy a few months of the year.
