AA breakdown cancellation

We take AA breakdown last 6/4/23. The next day  Friday bank holidayour car had issues as it’s starting but once you start to move car dies down. We called them after 24 hr to take effect the policy.
Breakdown service came 3 hrs later ( 1 hr  late than time agreed). The AA staff is rude does not know what’s wrong with the car and move the car into nearest garage (already closed as this is nearly 6pm when car is moved) which is out of nowhere. left 2 passenger and 2 dogs . the following day driver went to garage only to find out the garage is not working garage and no more mechanic, so car still broken. Driver did not know the area and did not agreed with move to tjis garage but AA did the choice.
we phone AA next day and they said they did not want to move car as same problem and we have to pay £99 + something each mile. I find these poor service and wanted to cancel as issue was not really resolve I am still in my cooling period and wanted to call or email them but not sure how quick will be reply on email and calling them they are closed til tueday because of BH. I know they will be admin cost but wanted to ask if they will charge us for the call as I wanted to file complain but not sure if I do this simultaneously. Any advice will be much appreciated. We were on holiday in Hull were car ws broken down and it ahould be last Friday is our day to go home in Andover, but some psssenger when back home by train and driver and car still in Hull not fixed.

If you cancel under the cooling off period they can deduct for the cost of any service you have already received so I would be surprised if you got any money back.

Generally services like the AA are only meant to be an emergency recovery service not a repair service so if they've got your car to a garage safely they've probably fulfilled their obligations.

If you aren't happy with the service then a polite complaint will probably get you further than demanding a refund.

Why the title "cancellation" -  the AA seems to have done all that you took out the cover for  - if they can't repair at roadside to take the car to a main dealer.

Most breakdown policies have a 48hr period from when you start. So you saw this out and then called them and they took the car to a garage.
As such, I can't see what they have done wrong.

    Recovery T/C
Provides help when you need a recovery to a single UK destination if we can’t fix your Vehicle.

Most of our cover can only be used 24 hours after you have bought it. If you have bought cover while you were broken down and/or you need to use it immediately then we will charge an extra fee. We will tell you how much this is when you call us.

    >>i) A second or subsequent recovery in relation to the same Breakdown event, after your Vehicle has been recovered by us. For example, if the location that you originally asked us to take you to is closed or inaccessible and you later ask us to recover you to that location, the second recovery will be chargeable. that car already had a fault, as such not covered. <<

Got you over the barrel in the T/C there. I'm sorry to say.

I think OP means "Closed"  ie "Not Open"  rather than "Shut Down".

I had a breakdown out of working hours and my car was left outside the dealer and the keys plus details put through the letter box.

Intrigued as to why OP didn't take out insurance before going on holiday.

The garage was closed but also not functional when we went back the next day the mechanic already retired so how can our car be fixed without a functioning garage, as I said it wa the choice of the AA to drop as there not the driver who does not know area as when he asked to bring somewhere else AA refused and wanted to charge per mile. The breakdown cover is bought late as we thought driver of the car bought one and we did not have issues with car upon going to Hull and we only decided to buy as soon as we know. As i said unfortunately the car still start but not maintaining as it move on our last day Friday so no issues before. I will pursue a complaint to them as AA staff is not helpful and not give other options causing as to still be on the same situation as we will need to move car to another garage with another recovery that has a proper mechanic or to a Vauxhall dealer should be what we have chosen with another recovery.

The garage they drop is not a main dealer it’s a petrol station and as I said the garage is no longer working as mechanic retires , it would be sensible for them to drop car in a proper Vauxhall garage to be properly look at
