And then the biggest blow of all, got my wage slip from my full time job and they have taken £200 off my wages for 3 days that I took off sick! Now I've been here over six months so I should get paid for my sick apart from the first day which I DON'T get paid for! But now I have this horrible feeling that for the first year I don't get paid for sick.

When looking at these things, always concentate on the bottom line - after tax and NI. I got a massive whack taken off for being on strike one time - it translated into £30 difference...

Just been offered £50 if I sleep with this bloke i've known for a while. If it don't get sorted I might have to take him up on the offer. (And he is being serious!!) LOL LOL

Right guys I have an update and I'm in a much more calmer and rational mood!! LOL

Personnel came out of their meeting and the personnel officer, H, called me to say that I'd taken the 29/30/31 off as sick which I agreed with, but said that surely that as I'm out of the probation period I'd only get the first day taken off. Apparantly I was looking at out of date terms and conditions and that they have been updated since (but not on the system!!!) so there wasn't anything they could do. Apparantly you don't get paid for your sick at all in the first year. I then dissolved into tears and hung up on her!!!

By this time the whole of the department were crowding round me making sure I was ok and then H came downstairs and took me away to one of the private rooms. She explained that she knew how I felt and how difficult it must be as I explained my situation and how short it was going to make me especially with the pub not paying the full amount next month either and she said that she wouldn't want to see me in financial trouble so they would organise a crisis loan whereby they'd loan me the £200 and I'd pay them back at £20 a month for 10 months. At that stage I didn't see that I'd have much choice so I agreed and asked her to find out about how soon I could get it etc etc.

I calmed down and she went off to talk to Finance. Then I called my Mum and explained the problem and she went mad and said that she would give me the money. I didn't really want her to do that but she insisted.

Then H called me back and said that they could get the extra money into my account Monday whilst my wages would go in as normal tomorrow. I said that I would think about it and let her know. She also said that because I came in on the 30th but got sent home I would get paid for that as I'd made the effort to come in.

My brain was mush by this point so I escaped the office at 12 and went to see Mum who was luckily up the road at Tesco's and I found her and just dissolved into tears again. Anyway basically she gave me the £200 plus £40 to go towards the dentists tomorrow. I feel so guilty though. She hasn't a problem with money as she quite well off, made quite a success of her business so £200 is nothing for her, but I still feel bad.

What made me cry more was that she said how proud she was of me and how hard I'd worked over the past couple of years and she hated to see me like this.

Anyway I've just emailed Finance and Personnel to say I won't be requiring a loan but will I be getting the extra day back in my wages next month!! LOL

I also sent an email to H saying thank you for being so nice and for her kind words earlier.

Anyway, doesn't take the guilt away and I hope that one day I'll be able to give money back to mum, because to be quite honest this isn't the first time she has bailed me out, but because I've had my lightbulb moment and I'm trying to sort it out it makes it worse.

I just felt earlier as if I couldn't fight anymore, that I'd had enough fighting. I feel better now and less panicy, just guilty.

I'm glad things all worked out well for you. Don't feel guilty about your Mum coming to your aid in your hour of need - I'm sure you'd do anything you could for her too.

It sounds like you are surrounded by charming people - your work collegues and your mum. And of course your friend who is just "charming"...

What a wonderful Mum - I know mine would do the same, but it would kill me to take it as she struggles too.

I think that's the same for everyone - whether their mum struggles or not. Well, apart from those who are parasitic children who take because the feel it's their right.

As of next year our company are not paying ANY sick leave. SSP still stands of course afters a certain number of days but its a pitance! They have a very high staff turnover here - wonder why! (No xmas party, no annual pay rise, no bonuses, no thanks!)

There's better places to work for. I hope you've sharpened your CV...

  • Well I went to the dentist this morning and it wasn't too bad. The guy didn't say what he was doing so I was petrified he was going to hurt me or give me an injection, so I started crying, the big wuss that I am!! But all he did was put a filler which kinda remoulded my tooth and that was it. Also I got it wrong, it was £50 for the whole thing not just to be seen!!! And I've registered with him so hopefully if anything happens like this again I won't have a problem.

AND today I got my payrise letter and got £600 (give or take) so I'll get roughly £30 more a month which brings my overdraft free date from September 08 to June 08!! Which I'm pleased about cause that means I can change my bank then!

Overall I'm having a better day although out of the gang of 6 of us one left a couple of months ago, another leaves today and another has just annouced she is handing her notice in in the new year as she has another job. So its just three left and one of the other girls has got a couple of interviews in Jan, so it will be just the two left. :-(

  • Thanks guys. I was a bit of a mess yesterday!! LOL

Luckily for my other half he didn't get the brunt of it because I can't get in contact with him during work hours.

Sometimes he just doesn't take me seriously though. Anyway moving on!!
