Hmmmm....thanks for the link GreenShield Stamp....well I will personally hope that someone gets a bit of that that is involved in Science and Technology - ie alternative energy. That would be good - would be pleased with that.:D One of THE most vital things going at present.

You'll excuse me right now for my two things I am pleased with for the day:
    - I've been promised a haybox by a friend of mine. I'd given up hope on that one - as she used to make them and thought she might possibly have just one left. When I hadnt heard I assumed this meant that she hadnt after all. She has - and I've been promised it.:T

    - I've discovered I do have a talent for summat it seems - having done M.S.E. Martin's quiz for the week "Are you worth more than you earn?" - I'm now feeling "well - I'm obviously good at money management then" - as I came in the top 5% of assets owned to income earned. Yay!:T Considering that I earn little more than National Minimum Wage plus have the extra expenses of being single and living in a dear part of the country - then I think thats proof positive I'm as good at managing my money as I thought I was - though I've learnt a heck of a lot more since finding this website (thanks Martin :money: ). Nice to know I'm good at something;) I need a boost in that direction - as this years cost of living rise from my employer will be another cut in pay in real terms - and a large one at that!!! Very depressed to know just how big this paycut will be and at being "valued" so little by my employer - so thank goodness I've obviously learnt how to get good value for my money.

Greenshield - interesting list. Be nice to know someone might benefit from what they put into society.

ceridwen - haven't done that quiz.................umm.........have to trawl around and find that one. I always think I'm pretty good with money but.......well you never know............I could turn out to be 'pants' at it...........lol
    I'll let you know..........................:o

Well today has been infinitely better than yesterday........well it is now. This morning was very hectic with older boy hurling stuff out of his room in random fashion............by lunchtime it still looked like a bomb had hit it..........but we did find the handset of the portable phone that mysteriously disappeared a few months back................words will be spoken about that I think:mad: Didn't find it till after he'd left to see his girlfriend..........he's not back till tomorrow afternoon.
Youngest lad has an overnight stay with family which he was getting really excited about............probably added fuel to the fire of arguments that began before he left with him winding up the other lad, much shouting and slamming of doors ! Still, all is blissfully peaceful now. I got all my christmas cards written, managed to finish off one of the many 'half done' christmas pressies I'm concocting, and have booked appointment with the dentist for next Wednesday (our dentist version of 'emergency' !). I was due to travel to Mums that day so I was there for her birthday on the 3rd but I'll have to postpone it by a day and hope the dentist agrees to do another filling for me.
I know the solution in the end will be to have it out and one added to my denture but that would take a few days and no way am I going anywhere with a gap at the front making me look like someone who should be wearing a pointy hat and have a broom parked outside ! Not only that, there's the expense.............difference between £44 and £100 plus I think was what he said last time and yes, I know its false economy to have another filling (I'd have almost paid for the extraction and replacement) but its a case of at this current moment £44 is about my limit for dental expenses.
Oh well, one day I'll fork out the necessary and have the job done properly but, fingers crossed, not at the minute. I really feel I want to see my Mum, plus my brother says theres some sorting out to do (what it beggars belief) before he goes back to Spain.

So, all that apart, I'm ploughing through my list of 'stuff to do'...........though tomorrow I shall be taking advantage of a free morning and hitting the charity shops......................:p

  • Hello all back from hols trying to catch up on posts but ....................the garden ......................................caterpillers....aaarrgghh

Mum did her best but its not the same as doing it yourself few dead things and lots of weeds ...............on the plus side i have about 20lb of runner beans frozen and a carrier bag of chopped courgettes frozen too

I have to pick up my side of beef at the weekend so been tidying freezers to create space

And i have planted about 80 winter veg plants all i really want to do is make some cards but it will have to wait!!

Shaz - who's off back out now to tidy pumpkin patch and tie up raspberry plants

shaz - you've done well with all those runner beans and courgettes. All ours are grown in pots which limits us a bit and sadly we've lost a courgette plant......it sort of seemed to go 'mouldy'/mildewy..........still, we had some good fruit off it initially and the other one's still going on ok.
OH was stopped in town this morning and given a whole carrier bag of runner beans by a chap we barely know. He'd grown more than he needed and thought it would do us a good turn and it will. Probably have to freeze them -don't think I could eat that many runner beans..................lol But its all good veg for the winter.
I got all confused with this winter veg lark..........thought as the summer veg finished we could plant stuff like parsnips but OH says they have a long growing season and need planting a lot earlier. So, not sure that we can do there as at the minute the pots are all full.

Weather been a bit cooler today, less 'headachey' and sticky..........both the kids being away overnight have us some peace and I took advantage of the free morning by going to the shops. Didn't go mad, just a couple of folders from woolworths, few bits from the charity shops to put away for christmas and some photocopying of history of my home town ready to send off to my Mums friends niece. She does so much for my mum, loves history of the town we were both born in amd doesn't have a computer herself. Least I can do as a 'thankyou' to her. I always pop a letter in as well and she's thrilled........always says writing letters seems to becoming a dying art which would be a shame.
Lady we ordered our soap nuts from sent me an e mail today -I'd asked if it were possible to send a free sample of them to my youngest son (he's into all things natural) and she's more than happy to do so.
Eldest son is moving in about a months time to a bigger house......not huge but a garden with a shed hes really excited about and the rooms are bigger. Much needed now baby grandson is walking around.
Was thrown into a panic this morning when I bumped into someone in town who told me our dentist was packing up:eek: I've an appointment next week for emergency filling but the real solution is to have the tooth out and put on my plate............so in flustered state I rushde to the dentist to find out whats what. Seems the practise is up for sale -a company are interested if they can get nhs funding..........if not, our dentist will carry on but only take private patients.............. Oh eck..........methinks, as one who always has ongoing mouth problems...............still, better than no dentist at all though I'd have thought teeth being part of general health........surely it ought to be nhs ? But then, what do I know................oh well........not something I can do anything about.

Hope you've all had a good day
    Mary

  • Good to see you back Shaz. How are you?

I have been catching up with Weezl's thread and now have a million and one recipes which I want to try. Have managed to reorganise another cupboard today and have meal-planned from scratch this week, which is pleasing. I definitely have a much better feel for how much things cost and what I actually need to buy each time, rather than what I think I need (if that makes sense).

The radish seeds are ripening which is good

Ceridwen - If you would be interested in sharing vegetarian and organic recipes then I would be happy to join you, but please bear in mind I am not in Weezl's league at all, just getting a basic gist of what I spend so far and hoping/ needing to improve.

Also you know Weezl and Acetate Monkey have been busy decorating, you don't think they have been secretly asked to build the Olympic stadium and bring it in under budget do you? The on-site catering would be brilliant if they have! Just a thought?
    :hello:

    Hi Shaz,
Off the overall topic, but after recently bulging a disc in my spine I was recommended a book "The back sufferers bible" by Sarah Keys. Well worth ordering a copy for the library, I've been finding it invaluable. Details all neck and back issues, plus gives exercises to remedy even the smallest twinge.

Sounds like a useful book to have..............thanks for that softstuff.

Well, thankfully my back was spared today a bit when ex foster lad turned up to do some gardening. I needed some plants shifting that seem to have seeded themselves everywhere and I know I tell myself that if they choose to live with me I should let them do so, but these little orange things were sort of taking over. Thinning out and transplanting very necessary so thank goodness he turned up. I was getting to the point where I felt I had to have a go at them and OH wasn';t up to much after being in and out of bed with upset stomach all night. Kept me awake too and couldn't find anything in the house that would do the trick for him............had to hot foot it to the chemist and find some magic pills that I was promised would work. Lo and behold within an hour of taking them OH gets up and decides to go for a wali into town, coming back with the cat food that I'd forgotten plus a bottle of something or other from another chemist for his stomach !! This is supposed to ease the discomfort he still says he's got !
Still, at least he looks better than he did this morning but its left us both feeling somewhat weary to say the least.
Just to help matters, I;m thinking I'll print out some history stuff I've found on my home town.............printer decides that 'papers jammed' - it isn't but printer decides it is.............so give it a rest for a while, see if it changes its mind and try again. Hate to be beat by something mechanicall like that.

Ooops...........would you believe it ! We've got two sunflowers growing out of one of the hanging baskets of tomatos.....................:rotfl:

Very timely! I forget that my neck/shoulder counts as part of my back. I woke with a frozen shoulder recently and cant get rid of the soreness in my neck. I think it's from sitting too long reading MSE

After reading everything I have from what I've done to myself, it becomes clear that there may be no signs as your back degenerates, but that it is possible to stop that degeneration early on (imagine a girdle where strands of elastic snap and just sort of poke out, you don't notice these strands going, and it's a long road until the whole thing snaps, well, your back is the same, and it can be prevented).
