Hi, Karen's Girl  I'll add your thread to "Simplifying Life" to keep all suggestions together. I, too, hate shopping. We're saving to buy a smallholding, which is a huge motivator :T
You might like to post on the Old Style Daily Thread, too. That's where we talk about what's going on in our days, especially the Old Style aspects. Today's is here.

Hello Karen and welcome - spending less is a lovely feeling...........I'm desparately short of money at the moment anyway but walking round a boot fair yesterday and coming home with one geranium (£1) I felt really pleased with myself.............most times I wouldn't have been able to resist a little bargain or several and the cost mounts up. I also make a point of only going into town if I need to..........that way I'm not tempted to fall into the charity shops (weakness of mine) and buy something I don't need.
Clearing out my wardrobe means I can actually see what I've got without chucking everything out to find that elusive 'top'..............de-cluttered my computer room and everything now has a more appropriate 'home' -much handier for me to get when I need to.
Having just sorted out two spare rooms for family visit I realise there is still a lot of 'stuff' in one of them, though a lot of it is bits and pieces I've bought in January ad February from the charity shops to make up gift baskets for birthdays and christmas and looking at it all as I shoved it in the wardrobe up there I felt quite proud that I've virtually got the lot so no further spending needed in that area.
Good luck with your 'simplifying'.........it can be hard to adapt to (for someone weak minded like me) but also a lot of fun:jMary

Just to add..........been to the dentist - choice of extraction or re-filling.......opted for the re-filling.......last one lasted from before Christmas till now so I'll take my chances and it was cheaper and less hassle (still £44 though !!!) Managed to walk through town and avoid charity shops...........popped into cake shop for a Winnie the Pooh decoration to stick on grandsons birthday cake which will be a very cheap sponge from supermarket !
OH has been good, worked hard sorting bedrooms out, hoovered, started hoovering downstairs and hoover came to a stop (think he'd worn it out.........lol)...........well, it had been cutting out so I said leave it till tomorrow................really need a new hoover but finances at the minute don't permit.............now fact coming to the conclusion that if grandson crawls all over the carpet and gets dirty ......well, I did at my grans -she had no electricity - and it did me no harm...................lolMary

Well..mary...if the hoover has had it..then I wonder whether you might contemplate a carpet sweeper? I'm rather thinking to myself that if my hoover goes at any point (better not!.....its not that old)...then I might just get a carpet sweeper instead. Think that and a dustpan and brush could possibly be adequate in my household (ie 5 carpets and only me living here). 'Course a lot of other households would have heavier-duty hoovering needs than me;)0

Had Mum's old carpet sweeper when we cleared the house out. It's ok, but really not as good as it was. Kleeneze do one that looks like a lightweight model so next time I get the catalogue through the door I'll have a serious look. I know even Mums was lighter to wheel about than any hoover we've had. Trouble is, three cats who seem to be in permanent moulting stage, one lad who, since working, seems to live in his work boots, OH in and out of the garden .............well is a carpet sweeper enough I wonder ?
Having said that, when I very first got married me and first hubby had a dog and cat, no hoover.............carpet sweeper and dustpan and brush........still I was younger then. Being on hands and knees to sweep up doesn't appeal somehow. Still we'll see.............past worrying now.............if there's muck on the carpet then there it will stay.
At least the bedrooms are sorted out - hoping son and girlfriend don't decide to opt for bed settee in comp. room............just a bit untidy -well messy- at the minute..............lol and would seem a waste of OH's hard work upstairs........still, it needed doing anyway.Mary

Well, lovely day, one load of washing out and now in, another lot out..............can't believe myself !!!!!:j
Arranged the history folder I'm doing about my home town (loads of stuff I'd printed off that needed putting in its place in some kind of order)
Bleach stuff poured down the loo
Made adjustments to baby grandsons birthday letter..........now just need to write his cards (one from me, one from my Mum)
Next..............clean up top of pine table (could do with being scrubbed but my hands won't be up to that)
Go through post and file away what I don't need to deal with
Deal with.........or at least try......the rest and not panic if I can't !!
Quick wipe round loo floor and bathroom sink
Attempt to shift cat who thinks my desk is a good place to sleep !
Maybe have a lie down...................................:rotfl:Mary

do it today - never did get to have a lie down...................lol Kept thinking of other things I ought to do.................family havent arrived yet.........having sorted out upstairs bedrooms I bet they'll decide to use bed settee in comp. room instead..................lol Luckily its not too bad due to de-cluttering but there's still 'stuff' I'd have to Just had a message -they're arriving about 2.30pm....................gives me a bit more 'me' time till I have to watch every move baby grandson makes as he crawls around inspecting every nook and cranny...........maybe I'll give him a duster while he's at it...............:rotfl:Mary
