So the first thing i do when i take it out of the box is to install the software then make back up? Then after the back up i can download the maps and camera updates?? What happens if i get the red cross of death again? Then it is obviously a software/download issue?0

Whatever you do DON'T use TomTom Home to backup your TomTom as it only backs up what they consider to be important & you're likely to lose a lot of stuff you want to keep.Winnings

Just do that then, it does work straight out of the box but, like all modern gizmo's, it is slightly out of date as soon as it leaves the factory.anditsinthere wrote: »Just seems to be a lot of messing about IMHO i just want to take it out of the box and get from A to B, thats it. Just as another little point..
I got the TOMTOM 720 and I get the flashing red cross and a flashing hard drive.. This happens when the TOMTOM is updating.. The flashing hard drive means Disk access and the red cross means not to be removed from the cradle.0 -
Hi There,
New to the forum so please bear with me...
I also have a current issue with TOM TOM and an attempted upgrade.
Received a 520 from Santa and, as you would, on first connection took the recommendation to upgrade to the latest software after which it is has never worked since!
I think the upgrade includes newer firmware as even an attempt to revert to the original s/w does not work...
Having upgraded to Home 2.1 and attempted to "disconnect the device" the program appears to proceed and advises " safe to disconnect" but I am left with a flashing RED cross which is persistant. A reset makes no difference... I note from the web there is lots of debate about this - but so far have not managed to find a solution!
Emailed TT support and wait with bated breath.!
