It seems to be a home problem... Loads of people have said it will restore itself if you uninstall the latest version and install 1.6 and run the update again
  • It went from an old version of Home to 2.1 and ever since i have downloaded the speed camera updates and maps it doesnt work, i have tried resetting it but to no avail...the red flashing cross appears on the screen.

Tell me you made a backup of the TTG before applying the update and are not running Vista?

If not it is well and truely stuffed and you need a replacement as you can't get a base load back on the TTG. How long have you had the TTG?

BTW I did exactly the same with my TTG 720 on the day I got it, read all the forums found out about the backup and vista bits before upgrading. I was lucky took mine back to PC World told them I thought it was faulty which they confirmed after inspection and gave me a new one. Did the backup and run it on Windows XP second time around and it was fine.
    Cheers

I am going to send it back to the company i got it from and tell them it is faulty and get a full refund. I am going to purchase a new on tonight, what is the first thing i have got to do before using it? By the way i am using XP....i am now scared that i might do the same with the new one i buy? By a backup, all I did was copy the whole contents of the TTG when it appears in explorer and not via TT Home, just in case then did a Backup via TT Home to be double sure then did the updates.

Mine kept prompting me to upgrade the Maps to Ver 6.60 a 920MB download, but my Map version was already 7.x so I ignored it and just did the operating system type update.

Would check the map version you are supplied by deault and what it is prompting you to update to.
    Cheers

dont forget if you do that you'll need to copy some hidden files as well if you use windows copy instead of tomtom home......otherwise the backup wont work should you need it again
