Yes, I’ve reinstalled app on both IPad and android phone and get some blurb about improvements to the app followed by a be right back technical issue screen…feels like an update has failed maybe? Just seen a post elsewhere, seems like it’s been down since this morning

    Hi there,

Today Chip was offline whilst we fixed a technical issue. This has now been resolved and you can access your Chip app as per usual.

I want to confirm this was a display issue only, and the balance in your Chip account was unaffected. You do not need to take any action and can continue to use Chip as normal.

We are sorry for the disruption to your service and any inconvenience caused. We always want to be transparent, so here’s an explanation of what happened.

    What happened?

Early in the morning on 20 March 2024 we discovered an issue with how balances were displayed in the app.

We promptly took the app into maintenance mode in order to resolve the issue and to avoid further confusion.

This was entirely a visual issue and during this time your money remained securely protected with our investment and banking partners (you can read more about how your money is protected here).

The app went live again at 17:27 20 March 2024

After identifying the issue, our engineering team worked flat out to fix it.

It was resolved after 8 hours and the Chip app went live again at 17:27 20 March 2024.

    Why did this happen?

The short explanation is that we undertook a systems update which had the unintended consequence of causing the balances to be displayed incorrectly.

We take incidents like this (which are fortunately few and far between) extremely seriously, and it is standard practice for us to swiftly conduct a full review and implement new procedures to ensure something like this cannot happen again.

We will share more details in the coming days on our blog. We are well aware that this was an exceptionally long outage and want to be transparent with our community about what happened.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at hello@getchip.uk

    Kind regards,

    Iain
