I'm presuming this is the same pressure washer where the seller said it hadn't been used in 3 years and didn't know whether it worked or not. In that case, why did you decline his offer to test it before purchasing it? https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6433468/buying-a-pressure-washer

It might be the same washer.

However in this thread the OP says he bought this washer on Gumtree.

In your linked thread, it states eBay as the selling site.

Regardless, it is a fuss over nothing much when it will take all of ten seconds to spray any dirt off it.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

If he dropped it off you had the chance to mention something or actually refuse to take it.

What are you hoping to get out of it - a reduction / refund?

I'd just leave as is now, clean it yourself - what's the problem with that?
I just do not understand why some people would put pressure washer or lawn  mover away without cleaning them. Guess we have all different standard. I agree it does not take long to wipe and clean but there should be some standards when selling second hand. It’s not the same pressure washer, this one is from gumtree.

Although saw it was dirty in the photos but thought he would have given it a wipe before dropping off. I did ask a lot of questions and he was very responsive but did not expect he would drop the item as it was. It has been in storage like that since Nov but it does work ok. Will be more cautious next time.

    Hi OP

Apols for misunderstanding your OP, my bad :(:(

I'm glad it is all good now.

We all do stuff like this and the best bit, we are in a better position "next time."

    Good luck.

Be careful you keep the mud and dirt in case the seller comes back looking for it.

There are standards, the standards of the person buying. Someone listed a dirty pressure for sale, You saw a dirty pressure washer in the pictures, you saw a dirty pressure washer in person and decided to still purchase.
I don't wash my pressure washer after use. It just goes back in the garage. Same as I don't clean my lawnmower or strimmer.

We're all different and have different standards. To me i wouldn't expect someone to clean an item that typically gets dirty in use unless i was paying a lot of money (e.g. car).

I appreciate you haven't given feedback to the seller, but i personally think you come across a little ungrateful in not appreciating someone driving a pressure washer to you, being polite and offering to test it. As well as the implied suggestion you have higher standards as you would clean it. I don't know how much you paid (so that may change the point) but I typically list so that things don't go to waste and help others with low pricing so I wouldn't expect to be critiqued if i've not taken time out of my day to have cleaned something.

  • If the pictures showed it dirty, the seller showed it to you dirty and you apparently were happy enough with it to pay for it even though it was, in fact, dirty, I don't think you have any reasonable grounds to complain. You had the opportunity to ask the seller to wipe it off if the fact that it was dirty was a problem for you. What would you say in the feedback anyway, "seller was nice, pressure washer was working and a good price but arrived just as dirty in person as it was in the photos"? Seems unnecessary. It's pretty typical for secondhand tools to be sold dirty. The seller didn't have to deliver it to you, and may choose not to go the extra mile in future if they find themself in receipt of poor feedback after going to all that trouble.

The rights or wrongs of it being dirty are moot now - the time to say anything was before paying for and accepting it.

This is why I stopped agreeing to deliver stuff I advertise on gumtree.  Too many unreasonable people who can’t be grateful when you try to help them out.
