Having topped up last night, the sun is shining, and the battery and hot water are now full and I'm exporting, so laundry and DW will at least be done today, and I may well take the risk and not top the battery up quite so much tonight as we're due sunshine tomorrow as well.
@EssexHebridean thanks for clarifying the reason behind needing batteries for work. Of course, I haven't had a power cut since the battery was installed 🤣

@greenbee well of course you haven't - most expensive insurance policy ever, but well worth it for peace of mind and at least it comes with the ability to assist with savings too. I still have battery envy!
We were 53p down yesterday over the cost on SVR - still up £5 for the month so far, although I suspect further attrition to that tomorrow and Saturday!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I never thought there would be a job where it was a condition of employment, I was just surprised to hear you say that you needed batteries if you wanted to stay employed, implying that without batteries, your employment would be terminated, seems harsh and quite a commitment to the job.
I was curios, not critical or laughing, I can't see why asking a question is so bad.
And I was trying to help you, you may not have realised that your 19p import price was actually more like 25p once you take into account charging and discharging losses.
And now you are exporting at 15p so you have paid 10p per kWh just to store electricity in batteries overnight.
You may, of course, already know this.
But other people reading may have thought it was a good idea.

The requirement for backup power (batteries or UPSes as another poste mentioned) isn't unusual @matt_drummer - and it also depends on what you do, who you are, how much they are paying you. Would you find it odd that I also have to have backup solutions for internet access and a 'recovery' site (i.e. somewhere else I can work in case it isn't power/internet causing the problem) within 30 minutes of home? Or that I have to be able to get to an airport within a given timeframe?
Yes, I can do the maths, and that's why I'm using the majority of the solar right now for washing and dishwashing. I considered topping up less, but the forecast isn't always reliable. So far the 'expensive' days on Agile have been more than offset by the cheaper ones. And while we may have 'paid 10p per kWh just to store electricity in batteries overnight' it does mean that we haven't drawn from the grid since we finished topping up at 4.30am and have therefore avoided paying 28/29p/kWh since. And won't be paying the 35-40p at peak rate either. We're averaging less than £2/day for electricity (and that includes using it to replace hot water and heating when rates are below 6p/kWh), even allowing for the miserable weather recently meaning that solar generation has been almost non-existent until the last couple of days.
If/when I get an EV or heatpump, there may be better tariffs available. For now, Agile remains the best option by a long way. I'd like to look into Agile export, but I think that might have to wait until I'm retired.
