I had the electric heating on last night, as my oil tank is getting low and the delivery will be sometime in the next two weeks - it should last, but as we have a cold snap forecast for the end of the week I need to make it last as long as possible! There's some dog towels to dry tonight, and (as a result of the dog towel washing) a drum clean to do on the washing machine, and probably the dishwasher to run.
  • I am not on agile, but I hope that tomorrow for you is like

that’s when the rest of us had 2 hours of free leccy.

  • Looking at the wind forecast it's probably only a short cheap spell early overnight. I'll have no objection to being wrong though!

    Pleasantly cheap all day today

N2EX is showing negative pricing from 03:00-08:00. But the afternoon looks fairly normal price-wise.

Should also be lower industry demand on new years day so  that may push it lower.

I've got the dryer and washing machine set on delay already for the 9.30pm slot so I don't forget to dry the dog towels and do a drum clean. If there is any more laundry by the time they are done then I'll think about it later. Immersion is also set for then via Eddi, as is the electric heating and I'll update at 4pm with any additional slots.

I have a couple of oil-filled radiators that I've always had in case I run out of oil (which is still a possibility), but I think I might have saved enough on Agile in the last three months to pay for a couple more - which will then mean that with the electric towel rails and the stove in the sitting room I can pretty much cover the needs of the whole house with electricity.

If the price is negative, tomorrow, I think it might be a good opportunity to do some stress testing on the heat pump. I'll turn the thermostat up to 25 degrees, for starters, and see what happens.

Compare works perfectly fine. Just compare your tarrifs.
Since most people still don't understand this, consider this simple analogy.

Which of these is the better deal?
    1. £300 for 1 bottle of malt whisky and 1 bottle of blended whisky (worth £20)
    2. £200 for 1 bottle of the same malt whisky
Clearly the answer is (2), despite the fact that (1) is £150 per bottle compared with £200 per bottle.

The blended whisky is the analogue of extra electrical heating, it's a benefit, but a much lower grade one since heating is competing with gas at ~6p/kWh.
