For those doing a wash overnight; does it stay in the washing machine until the morning?  If so, does it not have a smell if left damp overnight?
It's best to use delayed spin; that way the clothes are sitting in water.
  • Another one here used to washing overnight thanks to previously being on E7 - and no, never found an issue with any sort of musty smell. If finding that it sounds like the machine might require a clean. We do ensure that the door is left cracked open whenever ours is sitting unused, that might help keep it fresher, perhaps?

Getting more tempted by Tomato Energy Lifestyle as they don't have the peaks and lower s/c but someone said you can't have gas on Tracker because Octopus claim they can't read your electric meter if electric is not with them and that would leave me open to Ofgem whacking up the gas s/c...

Likewise tempted by Tomato Lifestyle tariff and have Gas Tracker. I can’t understand why Octopus need to read your electric meter if you’re on Gas Tracker, could you elaborate please?

It will be because it is the comms hub which sits on top of the electric meter which sends the reading, I'm guessing. I say "It will be because..." yet actually I can't think of any reason why that might mean Octopus would insist they have to supply your electric in order to get gas readings?  I suspect "They will claim that it is because..." might be more accurate?

If you have a smart meter and get quotes with other companies the readings seem easily available for the preceding twelve months - it may be because if something goes wrong with the gas readings they can not reset it via the electric meter comm's hub?
  • If that’s true that would mean having to change supplier for gas as well as Electricity or could I just switch gas tariff to fixed or flexible and stay with Octopus?

My monthly avg is 15p too but that's skewed by 3 days of taking advantage of negative energy prices

But that's the whole point! If you don't take advantage of lower prices it won't work!

Last month my average was 9.3, and this crept up to 10.25p last week. This week will obviously be worse, but you can only determine if it works for oneself over a longer period.

I'm of the same opinion as @RavingMad - our average import rate so far for Oct is 15p, but it's 18.5p if I exclude all the free / negative electricity I would not have otherwise used. When it's free / negative, we heat the house to 23C, whereas normally we'd tick over at 19-20C and we take long hot electric showers at 9kW.
For the comparison to be meaningful, I think you have to compare like for like usage, so I compare against what electricity I would likely have used if I were on the SVR tariff. Anything we use when free / negative is just a bonus.
So far this month we have had one day where we have exceeded the SVR, and that was because we had visitors and had to have the oven on at peak time, whereas normally we would have waited until after 7pm to cook.
There is a large high pressure system sat over the Atlantic at the moment which means calm mild weather, which translates to higher Agile pricing with less opportunity to price shift usage. Still, the flip side is the heating bill is reduced as it's calm mild weather so usage is lower even if pricing is higher.

For those mentioning tomato I switched from agile to tomato a couple of weeks ago and my gas is still on tracker and it is still showing the 30 min gas usage readings in my octopus account since I switched.

The sc for my region was 60p soon going to 65p on agile and now 40p on tomato and 5p overnight everynight and no peak, over the last week or so it's been about 20% cheaper than agile would have been.

Thanks for that about tracker. I’ve just started my switch to tomato lifestyle. Even though their rates have increased slightly it still seems a good without the hard work Agile requires. No exit fees so if it doesn’t work out I can switch back to Agile though they do have their own version of Agile.
