Wow - the paper grants have arrived today just 2 days after I received the probate approved email.  They were sent first class.

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting - I'm off to close 40 bank accounts.
make sure to play the lottery this weekend!

This is very depressing reading. I'm on week 20 now, and being fobbed off with the " come back in three weeks" excuse.
But want I want to know is this: there is a time limitation of 12 months from the Date of death to reclaim lHT on investments with losses. Because my late Dad's estate was complex, it took me three months to get the necessary information for the IHT returns plus a further three weeks before I could apply for probate. My father has been dead for almost 9 months. What happens if I dont get grant of probate before the anniversary of his death?

Are you sure you need probate to put in a claim?

Yes. Until I have probate, other than for date of death valuations, the various financial institutions won't provide up to date valuations, and even if they did, I can't dispose of them (whether with a loss or profit) until Grant of Probate.

I know that my aunt had to get Probate for her husband's shares etc. @lisyloo even though I don't think any of the accounts came to more than £700 - many were much less than that.

i mean, if true, it's insane they haven't been working on older applications first. it honestly feels like i should be due some form of compensation or refund. 37 weeks now...
just got told it will be pushed back another 2 weeks, and there's nothing I can do.

    40 weeks, here I come.....

    at my very wit's end

Shocked! Are they giving any reason as to why?

I am at 15 weeks and 2 days and that seems a ridiculous amount of time for an online application for an excepted estate.

I have no words - have they got a personal grudge against you?  Where are you at with your MP because I'm beginning to think that my application was approved because of my MP's involvement, especially the speed with which they issued the paper grants.

It's the same excuse as always - "there's a backlog". But I really don't feel my solicitor is doing enough either. I sent an extremely angry email to her yesterday to complain, but it's all in vain

My MP fobbed me off and told me he sent an email, but he has to wait 20 working days for a response before he can do anything else. Sounds to me like utter nonsense, and that he just can't be bothered to do anything to help

    I think I'm going insane

Just to add, this case also has no IT and a single beneficiary, so there's no logic to it. All they have to do is look at a piece of paper and sign it. My solicitor already did all of the calculations for them

Apparently it takes over 40 weeks to do something so basic - and I have to pay for the privilege
