  • Very interested to see what, if anything, changes with E7 rates once individual suppliers officially publish their rates.

Potentially planning to move onto E7 or Octopus Agile post April, but have been holding off on any decision so far while waiting to see what sort of splits will actually be available in two weeks time.
    Moo…

Are those electricity standing charge figures for London correct?
There's over £80 a year difference in Ofgem nil kWh ex vat tables.

London cheapest iirc c£130-135 - N Wales at c£215 most expensive

So £80 that's over 23p per day inc VAT.

    Looks right to me.

I just did a check on EON using a London postcode and got a current rate of 33.16p.

This is the current rate which is 15% below the 1st April rate on  the table above

A 15% increase seems quite high but the 38.2p rate seems low compared with the rest of the country.
As Ofgems Feb press release electric sc increasing from ave 46p to ave 53p.  That's 7p on average.  London is currently by far the cheapest - c60% of max.

    Gas 28p to 29p.

So 33 to 38 as table still less than average in p.

Pretty sure edf have published there Apr pre discount rates - and we know the nominal discount.  But then they didn't or rather couldn't apply that nominal epg equally on day / night rates for all methods / all regions.

But iirc they have said will be contacting customers c22nd - so might post their actual rates by then to.

2 days not long to wait.

My supplier used completely different method for pricing changes in Jan vs Oct - I did work out guesses for Jan method if used again - but expect the actuals in next few days.

Agile certainly looks interesting, but do worry people are basking in the "down market" benefit - from it bypassing Ofgem historic pricing model lags - but that disappears come July or rather Oct according to recent CI forecasts.

    An update.....

Checked the EDF app this morning - it shows exactly the same SC and unit rates as before but now shows these as applying from 1st April. This is for E7 / East Midlands. Could be I caught it whilst they're making the changes or (more likely I think) they're just going to hold charges at the current level for the next 3 months.
  • EDF haven't published the rate card yet, but for E7 Eastern region the web site is showing me this. Looks like SC and night rate up a bit, day rate down a bit:

Thanks - look like I caught them mid-update when I looked at the app this morning as app and website are now showing new rates as follows.

As someone who uses 95%  of their electricity overnight this represents a whopping 122% increase on unit rate charges as well as the 10% increase in the standing charge.

All very much as expected though - it's more a question of losing a dis-proportional benefit from the way the EPG works for users in my situation than it is of being unfairly penalised.

I expect there will be tears and tantrums from E7 users who haven't for whatever reason got their heads around what to many is a complex situation.

Ouch that's a serious sting. I really don't understand how their calculations can change in the day/night price ratio so much more dramatically in one region than another.

In feb/march we were running 88-90% night rate. Impressed you manage to get 95% but that rate change is a real kick in the teeth.

The EPG does not change the calculations, but suppliers are free to adjust the split on their E7 rates every quarter if they wish, in this case they have likely rebalanced their split based on summer differences in usage and generation. In theory with heating not required in the April-June period, so the only overnight usage being water heating and background usage the increase in night rate, but the proportional decrease in day rate may work out beneficial, although of course it will depend on individual usage.
