Octopus data not consistently available from SMART meter - is it just me?

  • Octopus does not own its own Adapter software: the DCC-approved secure software that connects the supplier’s IT system to the DCC network. This service is provided by an intermediary - TMA. On the few occasions when there has been widespread data loss this has usually been down to an Adapter issue.

It is also reasonable to assume that as the data flow to suppliers is not continuous, then there may be temporary connectivity issues when the daily data pull is requested. I know from looking at my mobile phone there are days when I might get a signal strength of one bar: on other days my phone is stuck on wifi calling. Smart meter comms hubs cannot connect to domestic wifi networks.

But wouldn't the data pull extract the export and import at the same time? And so Octopus are taking their time to process them at different rates in a different order on different days? Or isn't it like that?

No that does not appear to be the case. Import and Export have separate MPANs. Give the time delay on the Octopus App, I suspect that the Adapter requests a data pull based on the MPAN not the meter serial number.

Since I downloaded the Octopus Watch app, I have been intrigued to notice that it doesn't seem to have the same issues with accessing my gas data as the Octopus app. Yes, there is still missing data, but it is historical and I can now view my daily total gas use. Even if I can't see the HH breakdown.

The Octopus Watch app gets its data from your Octopus Energy account using a API link. Data days that are missing in the App will also be missing in Octopus Watch. If you have elected for a 30 minute smart meter profile, the 30 minute data will appear in the Octopus App. You change your smart meter preferences via the App.

Better now than it ever was with Shell Energy. A year with no IHD and supplying manual meter readings. It took the registration of my PV and battery to get the smart meter working and moving to Octopus to get the IHD to work correctly. Even complaints to OfGem couldn’t get Shell off their ar**s.

Data has now dried up, with nothing since 24th May whether it be via Octopus, Bright, Glowmarkt. I guess those "temporary connectivity issues" between us and them again.

    Email smart.help@octopus.energy

Your comms hub might need a reset. Octopus can request this from the DCC. If this fails, you may need an engineer visit to pull the main house fuse for 15 minutes. There is a known issue with some WNC1 comms hubs.
